We need to bring mum's hip op forward...any ideas?

Hi there,

My mum is in crippling pain from her hip which needs replacing. She has only just got on to the NHS list and the operation is currently likely to take place in January.
I suspect that may be too late for her to make the optimum recovery as she becoming less mobile by the day. She is also the sort of person who downplays pain so I know that her anguished reports about the pain are accurate.

I persuaded her to let me call her NHS consultant's private secretary but even privately we are looking at an op in November.

I wondered whether it would make sense to look at different consultants in her area. It's not a complicated operation as I understand it and the biggest risk by far seems to be the prologued immobility that she is sinking into as she waits for the op.

any advice appreciated.

Look at private hospitals in your area and ask them. They'll be able to tell you which trauma and orthopaedic surgeons they have working there and likely access to their diaries. Bupa also have a consultant finder on their website.

Or I’d explain your concerns to secretary you’ve already had contact with and ask if consultant can recommend anyone else.
