To ask how I should celebrate 40th birthday?

My 40th birthday is looming and I don’t know how to celebrate it or what to say I want. (People and OH are asking) I have one 7 year old.

Anyone have any ideas?

Party?holiday? City break? Jewellery? Family meal out?

When it was my 30th I asked for a weekend away rather than any big party of celebration (I find patty's stressful though!)

My birthday is in January which is shit just after xmas I love 500 miles from my family and oldest friends so couldn't drag them here for a party.
I've said in lieu of a party I want to be overseas on my bday with a meal/night out when back

Depends what you enjoy

Family holiday
Weekend break with dh
Holiday with friends
Big party in hall
BBQ garden party
Meal in a restaurant with friends and family
Dining experience such as a Michelin Star place
Dinner at home with friends/family
Hot air balloon ride
Skydive
Spa day

As for gifts, my 40th is next year and I’ve asked dh for an Apple Watch. His was this year and I got him a Samsung smart watch.

Expensive handbag/purse
Jewellery (maybe an eternity ring if you don’t already have one)
Some other tech that you desire
Clothes/personal shopper experience

For my big birthday DH and I went to a beautiful spa hotel, spent the day in the spa and had an amazing meal. It was perfect for what I wanted.
I’ve then had other celebration meals with family and friends

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I really appreciate it.

Anything bar a party lol.

Someone else on another thread is planning to spend her birthday can't remember if it's her 40th, though in glorious solitude in a beautiful, isolated cottage. Does that appeal if you're not a party type?

Dandelionplease · 22/08/2019 17:52

Laba- That does sound nice!

Me and my best mate did something every month for a year, trips to London, Rome, theatre, seaside, all sorts. Then I took my kids Disney for the actual day - well 5 days Smile but I'd been planning and saving for a few years.

I always go on holiday or day trip, at least, now my children are Adults.

I'm not a party person. When my children were a bit older, I'd have a cake with them and on the following weekend, a night out/city break etc.

It's sometimes still snowing on my Birthday and Scotland is freezing (i love Scotland) , so that limits me.

Ponoka7 · 22/08/2019 19:50

I went to Egypt on my 40th, it was somewhere I'd always wanted to go.

Mummyshark2019 · 22/08/2019 20:20

Holiday or trip

Pipandmum · 22/08/2019 20:23

I tell you what I did: my husband took me to Le Maison aux Quattro Saison for a weekend (no kids yet - we weren’t yet married). He gave me my very first mobile phone! Unforgettable.

LeilaDarling · 22/08/2019 21:05

I was a zookeeper for the day! Main present plus lots of other celebrations but NOT a party! X

Dandelionplease · 23/08/2019 12:06

Thanks everyone. A holiday is popular!

Hi there I turned 40 this year and I didn't fancy a party either. I asked for a cookery school day class for both DH and I to attend as one of my presents. It was quite expensive but it was fun! We had a great time and still cook some of the recipes now - it was my favourite gift ever. I also did a spa day and saw friends and family for coffee and meals separately. Hope that helps! Smile

My 30th was spent on the back of a Harley in Western Australia, my 40th - I had a 'last day of being 39' party and my 50th I went to a Michelin starred restaurant.

Thankyou. 🙂
