To want my sofa replaced.

Have had my sofa from DFS for 2.5 years, the arm keeps snapping of at the bottom ( see pic ) have had this fixed twice already and it has happened again but this time it is really bad, I was sat eating my food and it went, spilling my dinner down myself as I jumped it was that loud! (Also heavily pregnant)

I know its not a fault with the sofa style because my mum had this same one and has had it for over 5 years no problems at all!!

So AIBU to expect a full replacement of this half of the frame!? Rather than ANOTHER fix job!

YANBU. Clearly they aren’t fixing it if it keeps breaking.

Womanager · 21/08/2019 20:22

YANBU.

I had a sofa from a different chain that had several different problems over the 2 years we had it. I found advice online and wrote a letter saying that my consumer rights had been breached due to the sofa not being of satisfactory quality and requesting a full refund- the company immediately offered me a replacement to the cost of the original sofa.

This is the page I used: www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/return-faulty-goods/
There’s an interactive thing that tailors the advice to your situation.

@Womanager Iv rang customer service as no reply to email, they said they have to send someone out to assess the sofa, should I refuse for them to fix it if they try ?

I don’t know to be honest, we didn’t have that but then we did contact them straight after they had been to assess some repairs (the outcome of which was one fault cosmetically repaired out of goodwill, one fault deemed to not be a fault but wear and tear, and one fault fixed after an extended wait)

How long had you had the sofa when it was repaired for the first time? If its less than 6 months you would have more rights than if it was longer (as a fault in the first 6 months is deemed to be the retailers fault unless they can prove otherwise- after 6 months you have to prove it’s their fault)

A quick google suggests that you need to give the retailer one chance to fix the sofa, you’ve given them 2. So if they do come back after the assessment offering a further repair I would push for replacement.

I’m not a lawyer or anything though, I only have my own experience and what I found on google to go on!! (I did use reputable sites though like CAB and Which)

Sorry predictive text should say yanbu

sosorrysofa · 22/08/2019 19:02

@Womanager again thanks for all your help! The first 2 times it wasn't so bad, I could see it was separating and had dropped but could still sit on it whilst I waited for it to be fixed! Were as this time the whole thing had snapped and it cant be used !

Last time it was fixed was Oct 2018 and that was the 2nd time 🤔

@Misty999 yeah my DM has it also and no problems what so ever so mine has to be faulty!

If you purchased the sofa on finance, get in touch with the finance firm, they could help you come to a resolution.
