To Not Understand Hen Weekends/Nights

Why do so many women think they are an integral part of getting married?

Stag Nights are just as bad.

What a waste of money.

I can't stand them but guess what? I don't have to go to them.

I'd have to be a special kind of miserable to not to understand that other people do enjoy them.

Blibbyblobby · 20/08/2019 16:11

As a guest, it's nice to meet some people ahead of the wedding.

HarryElephante · 20/08/2019 16:41

I've never been on one

Haha.

Geminijes · 20/08/2019 17:00

If you've never been on one then how do you know they are a waste of money?

lazylinguist · 20/08/2019 17:05

What a waste of money.

It would be a waste money if you had the kind of hen night you didn't enjoy. But why on earth would anyone do that?! Whereas if you do something you enjoy for your hen night, it obviously isn't a waste of money!

QueenofallIsee · 20/08/2019 17:05

Are you sad because you don’t have female friends to invite you on a hen do? We are going to ladies day for mine, not a penis in sight. My sister had a comedy club night out with 6 friends, my cousin did an escape room for a few hours - it’s just a nice excuse to spend time with friends

FartnissEverbeans · 20/08/2019 17:06

I didn’t have one but I have enjoyed quite a few.

I love it when it’s just a night out - dinner, drinks, maybe a club (I love clubbing). I hate it when it’s an entire day or weekend, costs a fortune and involves things like knicker decorating classes and pole dancing.

onceandneveragain · 20/08/2019 17:19

Yeah, why on earth would you want to celebrate a significant life event with your close friends? Confused Can't fathom it.

You may as well ask 'why bother spending time with anyone?' or 'what is the point of fun?' The traditional 'getting ratarsed with banners and willy straws' might not be for you, but a) not all hen parties are like this and b) nobody has to go!

whattodowith · 20/08/2019 17:21

I agree. Many of them are so ghastly and tacky too. I never bothered.

ExplodingCarrots · 20/08/2019 17:25

Oh come on. Not all hens are tacky, L plates and willies. That was my idea of hell. I had a day at an adventure place and then an evening meal with cocktails and games. No willies or pink sashes in sight. It was nice to have a night out with friends and family, something that doesn't happen very often as everyone is busy and got their own families/ commitments. DHs stag was the same. He flew a plane, went go karting and had a nice meal with friends.

Jurassicmuma · 20/08/2019 17:26

I love a chance to catch up with friends and have a dance or some other activity. Also nice to celebrate that a friend is getting married. I love them. That being said it's got to be a two night thing, more is just to expensive and it loses the spark

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 20/08/2019 17:29

I loved my hen night. I told my friends I didn't want anything silly like penis straws or headbands etc. we had pre drinks and nibbles at maid of honours house where they had set up a few games like a quiz about my husband and a toilet paper dressmaking competition etc. then we went for a burlesque lesson followed by dinner, drinks and dancing. It was relaxed and fun. No one got wasted, lots of laughing. They don't have to be trashy drunken nights.

Ohyesiam · 20/08/2019 17:31

I booked a lovely air bnb cottage about a mile from where I live with 3 of my best friends. We had a takeaway and a botttle of wine. The next day my lovely teen age dd was delivered round and we all go ready together.
I loved it, but have to say that my main motivation was not leaving the house with my bf to go to our wedding ceremony.
The thought of him finding last minute pointless tasks to do was too much for my nerves to bear.

RedForShort · 20/08/2019 17:41

I don't go on hen or weekends that'll involve lots of drink (as I just am not able so would be no use) or ones that involve dressing up, straw willie's, strippers etc as they just aren't my idea of enjoyment. I really enjoy all-female nights out or a relaxed weekend (drinking at your own pace!) In fact my choice in clothes maybe something fancy, in fact often my favourite part us getting ready together.

Several of the hens described on this thread sound fab.

What don't you understand?
