To be disappointed with my bath

I made the fatal mistake of running it too cold. Realised too late, at the two thirds / three quarters stage. Compounded my mistake by betting on it being “top-up able” and got in, only to find it just that bit too cool. Cue a miserable twenty minutes willing the hot water tank to produce super heated water to bring it up to an acceptable level... A vain hope given that kids had already bathed. I should have known better.

AIBU to be disappointed and now feel cold, instead of lovely and toasty as planned?

That is the WORST.

Don't do what I have occasionally resorted to and try topping up with kettles of boiling water, it makes sod all difference.

I now have a new boiler and never have that problem. It basically means I live in the bath.

mummabubs · 19/08/2019 21:59

Oh god that's happened to me so many times and I've even tried to top the water up with a kettle full whilst waiting for the hot water to kick in. (I'm only slightly ashamed to say this has reduced me to tears in the past, especially when I've given up after 30 minutes of sitting in cold water to then have my husband stay I've had a decent break). 😂🤦🏻‍♀️ I feel your pain OP!

Sandsnake · 19/08/2019 22:06

I feel your pain. The disappointment is unparalleled.

Had a long week at work so promised myself I’d have a sharing bag of Thai sweet chilli crisps once I’d done my last (long) shift

Finally I left on the last day-got home-settled down looking forward to them

Only to find my dp and dsd had got there first and scoffed them

I cried

fascinated · 19/08/2019 22:36

I was sat there musing options :

  1. Jump out and boil kettle to ty and top up
  1. Jump out and put water thingy on “Adv” and try and top it up later
  1. Gamble on there being enuff hot water for a hot shower (seemed unlikely as even tap lukewarm)
  1. Jump out and put heating on/leccy blanket

None of it seemed attractive

All in the knowledge that I needed an early night (well, obviously, subject to posting now on mumsnet)

The only worser thing I could think of would be, when you make your first cup of tea in the morning but you are so busy getting ready for work that when you go to take the fist sip, and you have 2 mins to leave the house, you find the tea is;

  1. Strong as shit
  2. Is lukewarm
  3. Tastes of fish
  4. Has turned orange (see point 1)

Yes I do usually like strong tea - but hot.

And yes, I did mean to write 'worser'

Its the kind of thing DD would say when her day is shite!

"Mummy, my day is worser cos I missed Paw Patrol" Hmm

fascinated · 19/08/2019 22:38

Aw, the tea and the crisps... agh!!

Ugh a too hot bath too. When you’re sat there sweating from everywhere and it just isn’t pleasant. I feel your pain.

TheRattleBag · 19/08/2019 22:44

I feel your pain.

What sciencey bollocks makes it so much harder to heat up a bath than to cool it down?

Once a bath is too cold you may as well just give up on it - it's impossible to heat up (even with a combi boiler and unlimited hot water).

Dieu · 19/08/2019 22:48

Hate that OP, and definitely feel your pain!
Baths in our place are always a bit shit due to our old, crappy boiler.

userxx · 19/08/2019 22:49

Tastes of fish? Why?

fascinated · 19/08/2019 22:54

Dishwasher a bit crap, washed next to tuna plate or cutlery or sth. I feel that pain too!

Bubble bath keeps a bath warm for longer and always add a small amount of scalding water first then top up with cold and swooshing around to make lots of bubbles

LightDrizzle · 19/08/2019 23:30

You’re not wrong, and 🙌 for using “cue” correctly, it made me happy.

fascinated · 21/08/2019 11:08

@LightDrizzle I didn’t realise it was a tricky one... we must be getting old, eh?!
