To have Puppy Anxiety?

My puppy is 11 weeks old and I’m obsessed with her. I love her so much. A couple of weeks ago she got really poorly and I thought she was going to die, it was horrendous. The vet fixed her and she’s good as new now but it’s left me so paranoid. Every time she slips over, every time she doesn’t eat every last bit of food, every time she makes a funny noise ... it’s making ME ill.

My current obsession is with how much she sleeps. She slept from 11pm - 5am last night. I let her out for a wee and then she went to sleep again until 8am. She went to puppy play and then an hours training class and started getting tired in the training class. I got her home, she ate a bit and then has been asleep from 11am and is still snoring away now. Is it normal?? She’s supposed to be an active breed. I’m constantly terrified that she’s going to die.

Puppies sleep a LOT and puppy play and training is extremely tiring.

Try to relax and enjoy watching her dream!

Any concerns about eating, pooing, peeing or noisy breathing/coughing = vets.

Try not to obsess over rapid breathing, that is totally normal.

Oh OK, big breed too and growing like crazy!

She’s lovely try to enjoy!

Cryalot2 · 17/08/2019 13:16

Its like having a baby . You are doing great .
You will know when its ill.
Have you went to puppy classes? I found them helpful.
It gets easier . May you both enjoy each others company.
We adore our dog and illness can be worrying.

Puppy anxiety is really common. She’s fine and normal, still very young. Try to focus on some other things. I found going to my Pilates classes really helped as I had to concentrate really hard and it regulated my breathing and mind.

It will pass.

BenWillbondsPants · 17/08/2019 13:22

OP you need to enjoy her! She's gorgeous and puppies sleep a LOT. She's only a baby.

My 6 year old lab still sleeps most of the time but he's a lazy bastard anyway. Grin. Have fun with her, she'll be grown up before you know it.

whereveryouwillgo · 17/08/2019 13:24

The sleeping is totally normal, they can literally sleep something like 20 hours a day when they're that young. Our pup only managed to stay awake for about an hour at a time at that age, and then she'd be out for the count for a good couple of hours.

PixieLumos · 17/08/2019 13:30

I think it’s generally normal for dogs to sleep around 16-20 hours a day - our dog sleeps most of the time unless we’re playing with him or out walking, there’s not much else for a dog to do with his down time I suppose! Puppies will need even more sleep.

I had this with my dd’s puppy
He slept loads and ate fine
A really lovely puppy
But I was off the scale
Made myself ill over worrying about him
The last straw was the night before I’d scoffed a kebab with garlic sauce-some tit told me that garlic is poison to dogs-and I woke up with garlic breath
And breathed all over him before the penny dropped
I ended up sobbing in the corner that I’d killed him

He’s 4 now and strong fine and healthy!

Eat and sleep and grow!
Honestly just the training would wipe mine out for the entire morning. The concentration and stimulation is exhausting.
I get it though. I had done so much research that I knew all the things wolfhounds were prone to. So if she bounced after dinner I was petrified of bloat and I was scared that she would get pneumonia.
Gorgeous pup though.

Look at the size of those feet!

Fleetheart · 18/08/2019 11:08

What a lovely doggie. The anxiety you are feeling is OTT, can you go out for lots of walks with her, get outside, that is calming in itself. I did some CBT recently for my anxiety. It has helped quite a lot, might be something for you to try Flowers

makingmammaries · 18/08/2019 13:32

The anxiety continues when they grow up. Last night my border collie failed to yap every two hours and I was convinced she must have died. This morning my kangal vomited while out walking and I wonder if he’s unwell...you get the picture.

makingmammaries · 18/08/2019 13:36

OP, is that a beauceron puppy?

Vasya · 18/08/2019 13:38

What an absolutely glorious pup ❤️

Babies sleep a lot OP. Try not to worry Thanks
