My childhood home is for sale. I lived there until I left for uni at 19 and havent been back since. It's nearly 300miles away and dh thinks I'm mental for wanting to view it. I can't buy it and don't want to mess the vendor away but I have this ache I need to see it, all my memories are there good and bad. Aibu tto ask for a viewing?

I'd go. I might feel a pang of guilt for making the seller tidy up, but I'd go!! Might try and think of a way / excuse for asking to see if on the same day as someone else so that they had to tidy anyway, but can't think of one off the top of my head. I was desperate go and see my old house when it went on the market, but was afraid that the people I'd sold to would be there and recognise me 😂

Don't. It won't be the same. I saw my parents' house (childhood home) once they had started to pack it up to move and it felt so sad and wrong.
Look at the photos online if you want but be careful about visiting - it won't feel right and will affect your proper memories.

Agree with @GarkandGookin Don't do it, treasure the memories you had of the place, don't go back.
