To ask which car seat you have?

I'm really really struggling to choose a car seat for DS. I've got a Vauxhall Adam so obviously space is limited and I can't get a new car.

He's still in his infant carrier at the moment but I want to have a car seat that I know I'm going to get for when he finally outgrows this one.

I've looked online and I just can't find any recommendations and now I'm starting to worry! Sad

Does anybody have any ideas??

I have the joie 360- it’s fab. Extended rear facing and suitable from birth-4years

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 21:55

@Mrsducky88 Which car do you have? I'm worried about it not fitting etc. I want to keep him RF as long as possible but I'm worried I'm not going to be able to with such a small car

YABU for posting this in AIBU

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 21:58

@Courtney555 Yes, but this topic gets lots of traffic and I'm struggling to find advice elsewhere.

I had a Suzuki swift when DS was first born, so a similar size to your Adam, lots of extended (non infant) rear facing seats wouldn't fit, or would but only if you had the passenger seat so far forward it was pretty much touching the glove box. Sorry I can't be more helpful, the Suzuki blew up and I replaced it with a bigger car. Just to say I understand your frustration.

Cryalot2 · 14/08/2019 21:58

One for the dog. Sorry op , not the answer you were looking for. But it seems you can get points and be fined for not having a dog restrained in the car.

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 21:59

@WhyBirdStop Oh dear Sad looks like I'm going to struggle then. Argh.

I think the AIBU is, AIBU to want a rear facing to 18kg seat that fits in a standard city car. It's a fair question and a need a lot of people will have.

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 22:01

@WhyBirdStop Yes, exactly that. I'm really stuck on what to do now. Getting a new car just isn't an option either

OP posts:
PotteringAlong · 14/08/2019 22:02

Can you not just swap your car for an older, cheaper, bigger one if the car seat won’t fit?

WhyBirdStop · 14/08/2019 22:02

Keeping this bumped for you.

There will be more knowledgeable people than me along soon. Might be worth speaking to a car seat specialist, there's one in Dunfermline/Dundee (??) that people always mention, they might have some good advice.

PotteringAlong · 14/08/2019 22:02

Cross post with the no new car.

Then you have to go smaller car seat.

AlmostAlwyn · 14/08/2019 22:03

I also have the joie 360 and really like it! Can't say how it would fit in your car though. Have you got a Mothercare or Halfords nearby that would let you try a few?

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 22:03

@PotteringAlong No, honestly changing my car isn't an option at this point

OP posts:
PotteringAlong · 14/08/2019 22:04

Then smaller forward facing car seat it is.

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 22:04

I'm looking for some compact car seats. Just worries DS will be too big for them

OP posts:
Laquila · 14/08/2019 22:04

Have you asked in the Car Seats section? Or on the Car Seat Advice UK FB page?

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 22:05

@Laquila I'm on the Facebook group but they're not accepting new posts. This seems to be the case a lot of the time, it's never open for posting when I check

astonishedzebra · 14/08/2019 22:05

We have a Joie every stage. Are you close to a mothercare to go and try numerous seats in your car?

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 22:05

No mothercare near me. The one in my town was closed down.

We have a Halfords so I may try there

Celebelly · 14/08/2019 22:06

Join A-Z of rear facing group. I think that accepts new posts and a lot of knowledgeable people.

cantchooseausernamehelp · 14/08/2019 22:08

@Celebelly posted on there and somebody recommended the britax Max way but it's not been tested in my car so I think that's a no unfortunately

OP posts:
Seahawk80 · 14/08/2019 22:11

I have a nuna rebel (think it's rebel plus) in a Mercedes a class which is pretty small and DS is still rear facing at 2. I'm a bit rubbish with cars so sorry if mine is much bigger but hopefully it's helpful.

Celebelly · 14/08/2019 22:13

The Britax Dualfix rear faces to 18kg and might be a fit? But you might struggle with ones to 25kg. But given that's potentially a few years off, you might have another car by then?

MaggieFS · 14/08/2019 22:14

Got to Halfords and cancel the cheque. I don't know why you wouldn't when it will answer your question? You'll be able to try any you like out in your car.
