Dodgy looking roast chicken - HELP!

Not really AIBU but what to do..??? I cooked a chicken earlier and my husband carved and dished it out. I just went to make sandwiches for tomorrow and saw that one side of it looks all brown and sort of rotten. Anyone any ideas? Is this okay or is it a major problem and the whole family is about to be very ill....?? (Well, not me as I didn't have any. Both DCs seem fine so far - they ate about 4 hours ago. DH is out).

I'd really welcome any thoughts??

That's a perfectly normal looking roast chicken. The brown bit is the cavity.

Isn't that just some gizzard / offal bits stuck to the bones inside the carcass? Looks ok to me

wijjjy · 12/08/2019 22:26

Nothing wrong with that

MyGirlDaisy · 12/08/2019 22:26

Was it a roast in the bag chicken as sometimes they go a bit black underneath when they are cooked? Did it smell ok whilst it was cooking? I cooked a chicken that looked fine but smelt strange whilst cooking, one mouthful and the whole thing was binned I think you would know ifit was off.

It wasn't in a bag - just a normal Morrisons chicken. It smelt fine all the time I was cooking. The brown stuff is the bones - and the inside of the cavity is also discoloured on that side. The actual meat looks and smells fine.

It's just odd because chicken bones aren't normally brown (and they seem a bit 'soft'). But perhaps it's just bruising or something?

That's just the stuff inside the ribs I think, bits of offally stuff.

HairyDogsOfThigh · 12/08/2019 22:42

Yep, looks ok to me too.

bigfatmoggy · 12/08/2019 22:42

Phew thanks all, you've reassured me!

I know what you mean and I am paranoid about chicken but I think it probably is bruising maybe and a bit of Offaly bits as others have said. If it smelt and tasted fine I reckon your family will be ok.
