So am doing interviews to move to the uk but I need to find out more accurately what my take home pay will be. I've tried the online calculators but I haven't a clue how the tax system works so I don't know if it's right. I'll be on 23-24 thousand. Would I get child benefit. I'm scared now that it wont be enough to survive on for me and the 2 kids. thx so much

Generally the tax calculatiors are accurate to within a few pounds. Usually you can add in any work based pension too. Child benefit is payable until over about £43k at which point it tapers off.

You'd get child benefit yes.

£24k would be about £1500 take home, depending on pension.

If you use turn2us or entitledto, not only will you know your net pay, but also any universal credit (or tax credits & HB, if you are already claiming these) you will be entitled to.

thanks a million. it's less than I thought, but then again rents will be a lot cheaper. could I survive on that.

It really depends where you will live; will you be the sole earner with two children? That doesn’t seem a lot even with child benefit

IsobelRae23 · 10/08/2019 12:41

Rent, cheaper? Depend on where’s you are going. Some places will be £1,500 for a one bed rental!!!

Violashift · 10/08/2019 14:22

Are you a British citizen as benefits will depend on that?

The website listentotaxman.com will calculate your take home pay.

You will also be entitled to child benefit at £33 pw. You may also be entitled to help with childcare costs in the form of tax free childcare and/or universal credit, there are various systems in place. You could also be entitled to help with rent costs as part of the universal credit system if you move to a high cost area.

There are various websites that will direct towards calculating and applying such as gov.uk.
