To think most people are selfish?

I have spent years volunteering and being an activist in the trade union. I think I am just about done doing anything for anyone else. I am so fed up of how selfish so many people are. Nothing you ever do is good enough for some people. Meanwhile the same CF try and take advantage of anything volunteers do.

People are inherently born selfish, it's a necessary survival trait that requires effort to break out of. A lot of people don't bother, and I agree with you OP it's really upsetting to see how little some people care for the wellbeing of others.

In that type of role you will have seen the worst of human behaviour though. People who are happy don't involve their union. It's like the Relationships board. People in happy relationships don't post about them. So you end up with a skewed view of what's normal. You probably have compassion fatigue or burnout by now.

Yes I think most people look out for themselves and their close family members and don't give a shit about anyone else. I include myself in this.

Most people will put themselves, and their immediate family and friends first before caring about others. Myself included in most situations, so I think YANBU.

Interesting that you think those seeking union advice may be the issue. I have actually found the worst to be entitled fuckers who attend volunteer run groups. Who complain if they have to pay more than 20p a time and expect the moon.
I do think of others and think the world would be a much better place if we all tried to improve it a little bit. But I am worn out with how selfish and self centred most people are.

I agree with you OP, sorry you’re feeling this way. Most (not all) people are selfish unfortunately.

Selfish people are drawn to kind/giving people like moths to a flame. There's no escaping them unfortunately, and often difficult to work out who is a selfish prick before you've been sucked in.
