To ask for advice, 11 months- possible dairy allergy

DS is turning one this week and I've recently started introducing more dairy into his diet. His reactions appear to be increasing, but sometimes he has no reaction to dairy at all, even after a cup of milk..we are completely baffled!

After a bad reaction last night and the worst yet this morning (hysterical squealing within a few minutes of eating, blistering rash, puffy eyes, lips turning purple) doc thinks best bet initially is to cut out dairy at least until testing in 6 weeks.

DS was a bit of a fussy baby after feeds, more so when I was breastfeeding fully for 6 months, then moved onto formula which he seemed fine with.

Can this happen? I thought formula was supposed to be just as bad for milk protein allergies?

Doc was lovely and will try to refer for paediatric dietitian but again their hands are tied to long waiting lists.

Any info would be appreciated

Sorry, the point of my post was to ask if your dc have a dairy allergy, what do you give them to ensure they're getting enough calcium?

Re getting enough calcium, a trip to your local dietitian is the best thing, particularly at this age. For the advice you’re after, they are much more useful than doctors because that’s what they are trained to do.

Re the reaction, not every reaction is always immediate. Your dietitian should take you through doing a food diary because sometimes that’s the only way to find out. There isn’t always a blood test.

If you are prepared to pay, some dieticians here in Australia do skype appointments. Let me know if you would like more information.

My LG is 11 months and allergic to dairy, eggs, soya and banana. She couldn’t tolerate formula at all and didn’t gain weight for almost two months as a baby until we figured out exactly what was wrong. What reactions are you getting? When do they happen? How long do they last? Have you made a food diary to see if there is another food that correlates to the reactions? Honestly it’s an absolute nightmare figuring out allergies so I hope you manage to sort this out quickly!

Oh and we use Oatly Barista as our alternative as recommended by our dietician, Alpro growing up milk and KoKo Super are also great alternatives as they all have added vitamins to make sure our LOs are getting what they need!
