the whole situation is very worrying for us and future generations as things will get worse.

bebeboeuf · 06/08/2019 11:01

I don’t understand how people can report news that the climate is improving when things like this is happening.

This scares me more than gun and knife crime at the moment as it just seems so catastrophic

i can honestly say i don't want dgc because of this, although i wouldn't admit it to my grown dc. too many people take the attitude 'i'll be dead before it all goes wrong' well, it's going wrong now and people with that attitude can't think too much of their dc if they look at the pull up the ladder jack i'm alright aspect, it's their 'beloved' dc that are having to deal with the crap we've left behind.

It's one of the reasons that i won't be having children. Things are going to shit so fast. Thee thing is, scientists have been deliberately giving conservative estimates and downplaying things to avoid civil unrest.

there are many things we don't know about, but so many people aren't bothered it's so difficult to make a difference unless other countries really get on board too. america and far east we're looking at you.

Never mind a no-deal Brexit, climate change is terrifying. I can go out and buy an electric car, change my energy supply to a green tarrif, recycle like mad, stop buying plastic and new stuff. Yet it isn't even a drop in the ocean if everyone else is polluting, zofloraing, buying junk, dumping junk and basically not giving a damn. I spend a lot of time in the US and they think using "recyclable" cutlery is amazing. It's barely on the radar in China.

Terrifying.

We have to remember that sea ice melting won't raise sea levels one bit . It's all about displacement. The major concern is how much ice is on land which will raise levels. Globally we have 363.3 million square kilometres of sea. How much ice must melt to raise that by one meter?

Don't worry. I think we're due a mini ice age soon according to some of the environmental maths I did at uni. Apparently the earth warms up before it does a kind of chaotic flip into ice age.
We're also due for the north/south pole to switch that would cause a few major issues.

On the up side, there is evidence for cooling around Greenland - www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?feature=7356

We are definitely over due a pole flip and ice age.
I had wondered if we had managed to put a hold on that because of the consumption we have done
