So confused about my diet

Posting in here because I love aibu for the replies 🙂
Started 2 weeks ago on a low carb diet, not hugely strict because I was still having all fruit and veg but I had cut out junk food, fizzy drinks, potatoes, rice, pasta and bread.
I lost a whopping 1.5lb in almost 2 weeks, that sounds like a good enough weight loss if I was still having treats but I was being rather strict and depriving myself of all the stuff I love.
Weekend comes around and I went totally off track, spent most of the weekend eating crap, including a large Big Mac meal Sunday night... well this morning I’m down 1lb Hmm
Why can I not lose weight on a strict diet?
I’m moderately active and joining the gym at the weekend.
I don’t want to go back to weight watchers or slimming world because I would rather spend the money on going to the gym.
What diets do other people follow.
I’m currently 10st 2, height 5’4 and size 10-12
Also breastfeeding, DS is 20 months

Eating lots of fruit and veg isn’t low carb diet.

Try tracking your calories instead if you don’t want to cut these foods out

The only way I lost my weight was strict calorie counting - weigh and measure every single thing you eat. A defecit of 500kcal a day will ensure you lose 1lb a week.

I didn't cut anything out apart from sugar and processed 'food' -I just ate a healthy and balanced diet. I didn't count exercise towards extra calories, either.

My Fitness Pal and be prepared for the shock when you realise how many calories that you are eating...

LaVieilleHarpie · 06/08/2019 09:39

The key to successful weight loss is consistency, discipline and counting calories. If you're half-arsing it, you won't see the results. Or you'll have to wait a lot longer to see them. You're likely eating more than you realise.

Butters83 · 06/08/2019 09:39

The only way it works is calorie deficit.

Yo Yo letting not only puts a strain on your heart but will make your body cling to weight for fear you are going to starve it again.

No point being strict because - are you going to be strict for the rest of your life? Hell no! Dont exclude food groups, it will make you want them even more.

The body fat that you drop isn't because of what you've eaten that week.

It's weight watchers/SW that started the weejly weigh in if you go to a PT or proper programme at a gym, they take measurements and do a body fat analysis.

So your cut down has still contributed to your 1lb weight loss.

Women can show around a 3lb weight gain because of hormones. Weigh ins are useful for Men.

I'm on a VLCD, it suits me at the moment. In the past I've tracked calories on Myfitnesspal and are 'clean', with a reduction in white carbs. Then I've been as active as possible.

Are you concerned about health or just dress size? Because it sounds like you would have to change your mindset about 'treats' and nutritionally empty food like McDs.

Fruit and Veg are carbs, it won't work.

SW or low calorie is the only way unless you do full KETO low carb diet

Thankyou for replies 😊

I am just surprised I’ve had more of a loss in 3 days eating more, than I did in almost 2 weeks eating a significant amount less, it’s all so confusing and I don’t know where to begin.
I thought the less processed food I ate the more I would lose

All foods have calories. In terms of weight loss, your body basically doesn't care if its a bag of quavers or some vegetable sticks.

You have to think long term, and sustainable. No one wants to eat lettuce and grilled chicken for the rest of their life, how boring!

And you do still need to eat carbs, and fats! Your body needs these to function.
