To think this "long distance" relationship can work?

Been seeing him a while now.
He says a lot, wish you lived closer etc etc
And could see each other more.
He lives 30 mins drive away
We both drive
Is this really "long distance"?

No.

Jemima232 · 05/08/2019 16:02

But possibly he is using the 30 minute drive as a reason not to see you. He doesn't sound very keen.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/08/2019 16:03

FFS DH lived thousands of miles away when we met.

If you want to, you make it work.

sonjadog · 05/08/2019 16:04

30 minutes is not long distance. 30 minutes is normal distance.

Pinkout · 05/08/2019 16:04

No that is not long distance in the slightest even if you don’t drive.

restopo · 05/08/2019 16:04

That's what I thought.
30 mins flys over for me when I'm driving.
He's used to he's ex's all living round the corner.

Jemima232 · 05/08/2019 16:05

So what's the problem then?

Doesn't he come to see you as much as you'd like?

sonjadog · 05/08/2019 16:08

He sounds like a bit of a whinger!

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 05/08/2019 16:08

No definitely not long distance.

Long distance is Scotland to England, or at least a journey of 4 hours or so

PixieLumos · 05/08/2019 16:10

No, it’s not long distance. People spend longer than that in the car to get to work every single day Hmm tell him to get a grip.

restopo · 05/08/2019 16:11

There's no problem for me.
I go over he's mostly every time.
He moans when he has to come to me saying wish you weren't so far away etc
It's driving me mad.

He moans when he has to come to me saying wish you weren't so far away etc
It's driving me mad

Then he just isn't all that into you. Sorry, OP. It doesn't look good.

ShirleyPhallus · 05/08/2019 16:15

30 minute drive being long distance?! Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Grin

iolaus · 05/08/2019 16:36

Any chance he's hinting you move in together?

Loopytiles · 05/08/2019 16:39

Why are you doing most of the travelling? If it’s not roughly similar amounts it’s a bad sign. Especially on top of what he’s been saying.

He doesn’t sound worth the journey!

Dontlikeoranges · 05/08/2019 17:06

30 mins? That is nothing! Many people drive/walk/bus way more than that every day to work AND back. Totally sounds like he can't be arsed. I'd be making sure he does equal amounts of journeys and if he moans I'd bin him.

stoplickingthetelly · 05/08/2019 21:33

30 minutes is nothing. I would consider that local really. During university holidays and for about 18 months after university finished I lived 300 miles away from my now dh. If you both want it to work it will. I’m sorry to say it sounds a bit like an excuse to me.

Malvinaa81 · 05/08/2019 22:09

It's not going to work.

Get rid of him.

Andysbestadventure · 05/08/2019 22:14

30 mins? It takes that long to go two miles here ffs.

TheRLodger · 05/08/2019 22:17

No try 200 miles for the majority of our 4 year relationship. 30 mins sounds perfect tbh. Close enough to see each other spontaneously but not in each other’s pockets

Lockheart · 05/08/2019 22:17

30 minutes really isn't long distance. It's what, well under 10 miles? My boyfriend lives in the US, approximately 4,000 miles away.

If he thinks 30 minutes is too much then I'm sorry to say he doesn't sound like he's that invested in this relationship.

cottonwoolsnowmen · 05/08/2019 22:18

Bloody hell.

Does he go on holiday?

Stompythedinosaur · 05/08/2019 22:21

30 minutes is nothing! It is not long distance.

If a 30 min trip is a boundary then he isn't that into you.

Doormat247 · 05/08/2019 22:34

I had an ex that moaned constantly about the 18 min drive to my house and the fact that doing that drive 3 times a week cost him loads of fuel money (I didn't drive at that point). The fact I fed him at least 8 meals per week for free was apparently irrelevant.

It all comes down to the fact you don't matter enough to him. If you did he wouldn't even mention it.
My current partner has never once complained about the 25 min drive and has never in 18mths expected me to drive to his house.

phoenixrosehere · 05/08/2019 22:41

My husband and I started from being a 10 min walk to 4,000 miles with an ocean separating us. No.. 30 min is not long distance and anyone who says it is is usually not that into the person.
