To think doctors should keep stock of important medicines?

I have just booked my appointment for my depo injection next week. They told me the injection is out of stock and they can't order it in so I have to go and get a prescription then go to the local chemist and get the injection before the appointment.

They said the Doctor can't order in stocks the chemist has to get it!

Is this now the case for this sort of medicine?

Yes, the doctor just prescribes stuff for injections and you go and get it from the chemist. Unless it's babies vaccinations.
