AIBU to ask about 18th birthday presents/events

DD is 18 next month and I was wondering what sort of gifts people got for their children’s 18th.

I’ve got a Pandora charm, K-Pop album, book and earrings.

On the day we are planning brunch, a swim at the local Lido and a family meal in the evening.

Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds lovely. My DS is 18 in a couple of weeks. He says he wants money and is going out with his friends.

If that’s what your DD wants then it’s absolutely fine but every 18 year old is different so it’s hard for outsiders to say.

My DD were both homebodies so a family buffet in the evening suited them fine (although they would have hated a lido). My niece OTOH just wanted to be out clubbing with her mates on her birthday and got very stroppy when her mum wanted a family do.

DD is the oldest of her friendship group so can’t really go out clubbing with them as they are too young.
