I need some advice re taxis from Cardiff Central station

My 15yo DD is travelling alone by train to an event in Cardiff. She will be meeting up with people she knows, including responsible adults, but nobody will be able to meet her early-evening train at Cardiff Central. She needs to get to an address 2.5 miles from the station by taxi. We are unfamiliar with Cardiff and the station (though DD has previously been to the venue address by car so will recognise it when she gets close).

Can anyone advise me on the best taxi option? Is there a taxi rank at the station and, if so, where? Are taxis from the rank safe and reliable? How much is the 2.5 mile journey likely to cost?

(I know many people swear by Uber, but I have never used it before, and I'm not sure I'd comfortable using it for the first time in these circumstances).

There's a taxi rank directly outside the station. Fares wise, all depends on the distance. Just expect to pay City prices - for example, to the bars in the Bay (about 2 miles)it's about £10

The taxis on the rank are black cabs with council logo on etc. Don't let her take a cab that isn't from the rank.

You could get her to ring you /another adult for the duration of the taxi ride. That way you know she is safe and made it to her destination.
Taxi rank outside

The rank is just outside the station. Following the signs for taxis will take you out via the original station building on the north side of the tracks. Turn to the right and head outside. There's no traffic on this side of the station apart from the cabs on the rank (pick up and drop off generally is from a new entrance on the south side), so it's pretty straightforward.

Plenty of taxis there, out the main (front) entrance and to the right. She shouldn't have any problems, it's very safe.

As people above said it's quite straightforward, to get a taxi immediately outside the station. I pay approx £15 for a 7.2 mile journey from central station so it's quite reasonable. Another suggestion is that as a lone female she could take a pic of the car reg and text it to you as she gets in the car.

Out of main entrance, turn right.

Which venue is she going to? Might be easier/cheaper to get the bus?

An Uber can be better in that you are given more information about the taxi. If you book a minicab through dragon taxis, you usually get a text with make model colour and car registration.

Thanks - this is all very helpful. #LoveMumsnet Flowers
