Just found a snail with almost all of the shell missing. She (I’ve decided she’s a female-spirited snail) is wandering around happy as Larry. Awesome, or disgusting?

Oh dear, how will she survive without a shell? Neither awesome nor disgusting, but worrying. Perhaps you can keep her in a something safe so birds don't get her. (Also how do snail shells work? Do they grow as snail grows?)

Made me laugh

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 31/07/2019 23:53

Doesn't it depend on whether or not you have a garden with plants you've lovingly planted and tendered and whether or not Shell-less Shellie (is it ok to name her?) will eat them?

If you're a gardener, I suspect you'll fashion a sign for the birds with "lunch this way --->" written in birdsong.

I'm not a gardener, but I don't know what kind of person you are if you care.

Vegan?

Make her a new shell out of a pasta shell, not a bow. Don’t really though!

😆 poor snaily.

Maybe make her a home with some salad to eat or leaves or grass (just realised I don’t really know what snails eat).

Then name her. sally snail. 😁

Hawkmoth · 31/07/2019 23:56

If you were so inclined, you could save her by keeping her in a tank, feeding her veggies and giving a cuttlefish bone to replace Calcium.

My garden is of the jungle variety so no worries there. I put her in a damp place (not difficult to find one today!) and fed her some crushed egg shells. Here she is a while later, looking really happy.

I admired her immensely so I was very happy to help her on her way. Rehoming her in my house was perhaps a step too far! Grin

I had an African snail that I used to race.

I had its shell removed because I was told it'd make it move faster but if anything it just made it more sluggish...

DaphneFanshaw · 01/08/2019 00:04

Grin great joke Worra, you really snailed it.
