Nearly 40 and got period a week early

Wondering if anyone's monthly cycle has become more sensitive to external factors as they've aged?

I know I've had a change in routine and also have been very stressed in the past two weeks. Just got period today, a whole week early. No chance of pregnancy btw. Just very odd for me. Normally stress knocks my cycle slightly off by a day or two and increases the length...

This happened to me. Could be the perimenopause - irregular periods are one of the symptoms

Thanks Super. Is this likely at 39 though?

My cycle has become much shorter. First noticed it at Christmas. Shorter cycle and more brutal but shorter periods. I’m just 40. I think it’s the perimenopause too. It’s a fairly common symptom I think.

DramaAlpaca · 31/07/2019 22:55

Sounds like it could be the start of the perimenopause. I think I was 42 when my always 28 day cycle started going off at a tangent, so a bit older than you but not much.

Your actual period or more like spotting?

I have had spotting / bloody discharge in run up to period start recently along with pain / pressure on one side of pelvis and have just sound out it’s endometriosis

I'm 41 and over the past year my cycle has shortened. Was always 28 days, now it's down to 24/25. The actual period is heavier and more painful but much shorter too, usually over by day 3. I'm assuming it's the perimenopause

Yup mine have suddenly gone from regular 28 days to somewhere between 21-28 - depending on the month.
Fortunately I get a lovely big migraine attack for the two days before i come on so I get ample warning!!!

@Twinkletoenails almost straight after I turned 40 I had;

inter-period bleeding (turned out to be cervical polyps)
Ovarian cyst
2 periods in one month
a missed period (definitely not pregnancy)
Heavy periods

It was my body was just holding out for the big 4-0 to start falling apart!

Twinkletoenails · 31/07/2019 23:03

Oh gosh. Thanks all. All sounds very familiar. Have noticed the past few periods have been v heavy and last month I had a v bad migraine with aura which I haven't had in a few years

I’m similar I had bleeding at ovulation this month and 2 migraines with auras this week and I am 39

But I have had scans and bloods and my hormones are mad and I need to see an endocrinologist and have lots of fibroids again.... the menopause would be a blessing right now
