To think foods should be consistent taste and quality

I am fed up at once again buying something I buy regularly and finding that it has diminished in taste and quallity.
I dont buy from high end shops as I cant afford it but found most things in Lidl Aldi to be okay usually. Sometimes I have chosen the wrong thing but previously once Ive tried something and found its to our taste all is well for further purchases.
But Im finding too often that Im having to change my regular buys because they cant be relied on.

My main gripe this morning is Aldi Cereals. I buy Crispy Rice cereal and Wheat biscuits . I have the crispy rice mainly and the kids have both. I bought new packets yesterday and we opened them this morning. The rice has always tasted the same - light and crispy with a pleasant flavour. All you can expect from a cereal really. But Ive had to empty my bowl in to the bin today as the rice was a weird texture -hard and chewy with no flavour at all.

The kids have done similar with their bowls -saying that they dont like it with no more explanation. They love this cereal usually .

So thats money wasted now. No-one will eat these cereals now and Ill have to buy more from somewhere else. My main shop is at Aldi and now I cant trust it to provide the foods my family like.

I know its not world shattering but I was comfortable with my choices before and Im going to have to start all over again . Im not happy to start the holidays off like this . They hate shopping and Id thought I was ahead of the game this time. More fool me .

Are you sure it wasn't an issue with that particular packet? Eg damaged seal?

That's quite an intense reaction. But I get the irritation when you like something and then they change it, or when something you like is discontinued. I'm sure your sense of perspective about it will be restored soon.

Have you complained to Aldi? It could be a problem with that batch, rather than reformulation, which does happen.

Like you, I find most of their products excellent with the quality certainly better than similarly priced items at other supermarkets.

To me that sounds like a slight breakage on the seal would cause it to taste that way, take it back to ALDI and get a replacement packet.

It definitely sounds like they had gone stale rather than a wider problem. Your kids probably just copied you. :(

Aldi are notorious for changing supplier and the recipe with it, they used to do an amazing lasagne designed by a Michelin starred chef. Then it changed but was still okay. Then it changed again and got really sloppy. We started buying their Charlie Bigham dupes (when they did them) until the day they tasted like they'd used the entire oregano consumption of Italy for a year in one! We no longer buy their lasagnes!

I would recommend you contact their customer services and ask if there's been a supplier or recipe change, they're usually quite good in telling you. They will then, no doubt, tell you to take the boxes back for replacement/refund if you still have the receipt.
