To be very torn after watching the Michelle Carter documentary

I just watched I love you, now die and I am shocked at just how much deeper the story actually is.

When I first read about this in the news I found it easy to say what an awful callous and evil girl but I am very torn now after watching.

I find myself not being able to agree with the prosecution at all that the young man would definitely still be alive if it weren't for her and that she did all this to gain popularity.

I came away from it thinking that they both had very severe issues which were magnified by their relationship in a tragic way and it was never as simply as her being an evil manipulative girl.

I didn’t know it was available in the uk! How can I watch it?

nokidshere · 29/07/2019 21:43

I can't find it anywhere? Where did you watch it?

Doesn’t matter her intention, she told a mentally unstable man to kill himself. She deserves to be punished for that.

JuiceIt · 29/07/2019 22:46

Yes Choc but she was very mentally unstable herself which is something I never really appreciated until I watched this.

Punished of course but certainly not as clear cut as portrayed initially.

Totally agree, DP and I said the same, it’s a very complex case and difficult to know what to think about a lot of it. She seemed to be in a complete fantasy world and he was very messed up poor boy. Ultimately I don’t think she should have been prosecuted though, she needs therapy

JuiceIt · 30/07/2019 08:16

Tingly, I think that was where I watched it too.

Humans are complex and these incidents always have layers of issues and victims. It’s never simple. So I don’t watch these types of programs. It’s pointless unless you were actually first hand involved. People get SO caught up in their opinion on what the truth is when they never have their opinion based on anything completely indisputable.

JuiceIt · 30/07/2019 08:20

Yes Dolphina. Very sad.

I kept getting really annoyed when the prosecution was saying 'he would still be here if it weren't for her'. The poor boy had tried to commit suicide 4 times before, very nearly succeeding. He was insistent on his messages to her that this is what he wanted to do.

She should have told someone of course but I don't think she was in the right place mentally to do so but it's very unfair to say he definitely would still be alive. He had a lot of problems unfortunately.
