Not an AIBU but very frustrated and tense and can't even find the flipping board! Has it been moved or merged into another section?

Any other fellow dissertation writers out there - how are you doing?

I can't write. It's all total shit! It's the equivalent of that character who rambles on with "yeah but no, but yeah" from Little Britain.

I am due to start my MA dissertation and I cannot or the life of me even decide on a question. After completing the 120 credits relatively easily, I just cannot narrow it down. My brain is like mush.

Relate so much to the mush-like brain! It's so hard! Wtf.

I cracked and negotiated a deferral until the end of next term - trying to get anything done over the summer is a nightmare - it means I'll graduate a year later but my sanity is important....

TormentedbyBlankWhitePages · 28/07/2019 16:56

When did you get your deferral, Londonmummy? I agree it makes sense in some circumstances, hopefully it's taken the pressure off you?

I have a nasty feeling I'd still feel like I'm going crazy even if I had extra time though! I just want it done, over and handed in! Honestly think if I broke my arm or somesuch and had to defer I'd go nuts waiting and worrying for an extra semester at this point.

I've taken a leave of absence, was really struggling with work stress, uni stress and a death in the family so the uni have allowed me to do my dissertation module when I feel ready to go back. I'm hoping that will be sept/Oct time, but maybe will wait until January. It feels really weird not thinking about it and having it hanging over me!

AncientStudent · 28/07/2019 18:15

Mine is a research project so I'm roaming the country doing semi-structured interviews over the summer with an aim to get them transcribed before the kids go back to school (hollow laughter).

Then I've 3 months to get it written before Christmas and then can review it after a break before submitting end of January.

It all looks so easy written down, but in reality it's chaos.

What's everyone doing theirs on then?

Londonmummy66 · 28/07/2019 18:15

I asked for the deferral at the beginning of the summer holidays as I was totally stressed out about trying to write it and deal with my DC - they were very relaxed about it so I doubt I am the first. I know what you mean about it hanging over you though OP but at least I can forget about it for a week or two.

AncientStudent · 28/07/2019 18:17

I have an academic poster to present on Thursday summarising my research to date. Having to format and design that has had me on the edge of sanity this week. I am not a graphic design student, I don't know how to make things look pretty.

onlymyselftoanswerto · 28/07/2019 18:31

Mine is also a research project doing semi-structured interviews @AncientStudent - as it's on a vulnerable population the ethics are going to be an absolute nightmareConfused

AncientStudent · 28/07/2019 18:57

Argh, that sounds tough onlymyself! Mine is on a vulnerable population too, in the end to get through ethics I'm researching one step removed via practitioners who have worked with them.

Ethics application felt like a dissertation in it's own right. I hope you get yours sorted!
