Sister abusing Netflix Account

CrazylazyJane · 26/07/2019 12:16

I don't think I am but shouty sister is making me doubt myself.

DP has a Netflix account. He uses it to watch stuff during his lunch break and at home. I use his account for binge watching at home. All good. DS came to stay for a while and used our Netflix account when she was staying with us. Since moving out she had continued to watch and download stuff on our account. No one was particularly bothered by this, as the only time I use the account is to stream stuff at home.

Now holidays have arrived. I went to download a few episodes of something to watch on the plane and it says there are too many devices being used. I text sister to ask her to delete her downloads and she said she would. 2 weeks later, she still hasn't done it.

We're now due to go on holiday - train this time and we have the same problem. I phoned DS to remind her to delete all the downloads and her response was "but I'm flying to Canada on Monday! What am I supposed to watch?" I suggested that she get her own account, at which she wailed and nashed her teeth saying "you don't pay for the account so you have to right to order me to delete downloads.

Spoke to DP and he has deleted her device off the account and changed the password. Since then I've been getting abusive text messages from her. So, I'm really not being unreasonable am I?

Just change the password and click all devices- it means every device when they sign on has to enter the new password. She won’t be able to get on.

IggyAce · 26/07/2019 12:19

Yanbu your cf sister can pay for her own Netflix account.

snitzelvoncrumb · 26/07/2019 12:19

Your not unreasonable, just ignore the messages hopefully she will get over it

Sirzy · 26/07/2019 12:19

Cheeky cow! You can’t take advantage of things like that. If she wants to be in control of a subscription then she pays for the subscription

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/07/2019 12:19

You are not being unreasonable at all. She took the piss.

Jemima232 · 26/07/2019 12:19

No, you're not BU at all.

She's a CF.

Nesssie · 26/07/2019 12:19

YANBU

You gave her a chance to delete the downloads and carry on using the account fairly and she refused.
Why should the person paying for it not get to use it!

What cheeky fucker.

MsFrosty · 26/07/2019 12:19

Christ, its 7.99. If she can afford to fly to Canada she can afford Netflix for one month

IsobelRae23 · 26/07/2019 12:20

Duh you’ve done that! But you should have done it straight away and said ‘I’m sorry I don’t know what has happened?’ All innocent 😇

browzingss · 26/07/2019 12:20

No. The only unreasonable thing you did was give her so many chances instead of just changing the password earlier

TheJoxter · 26/07/2019 12:20

I thought it only said there were too many devices being used if someone else is actively watching stuff on there, not when someone’s downloaded things. YANBU though, if she wants Netflix she can pay for t herself.

Weirdwonders · 26/07/2019 12:20

Er no of course you aren’t. It’s not even your account and Netflix is cheap enough so if she wants it she should pay for it.

BlueSkiesLies · 26/07/2019 12:20

DP can do a password reset

IAskTooManyQuestions · 26/07/2019 12:21

I'd have asked DP to deal with it.

Are YBU? well kind of depends how you delivered your 'get your own account message' - not your place to have instigatged the conversation TBH it was your partners place to deal with his family..

Christmas will be fun Grin

Bunglefromrainbow · 26/07/2019 12:21

YANBU, your DS most certainly is.

Perhaps, in the interest of sisterly love you could offer to allow her to pay the extra £2 a month that means you can access the account on 4 devices as opposed to 2?
If she isn't happy paying just £2 a month then I'd just let her tantrum until she sees sense.

SavoyCabbage · 26/07/2019 12:21

Well obviously you aren't!

We had an almost identical Netflix bust up in our family with dh's brother and our Netflix.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 26/07/2019 12:22

Sorry - his sister or your sister ?

If it's your sister, tell her to grow up !

GruciusMalfoy · 26/07/2019 12:23

She's a cheeky bugger. She can pay the £7.99 or whatever it is and get her own account.

IAskTooManyQuestions · 26/07/2019 12:24

Mind you , Netfix say you can have 6 devices logged in

Once you have an active Netflix membership, you can have six (6) devices registered to your account at any given time, and you may stream up to two (2) movies or TV shows at the same time by default. There is also an option to upgrade to four (4) streams at the same time from the Your Account page.

recrudescence · 26/07/2019 12:24

Don’t new users get a free month? That should get her to Canada and back.

Blueemeraldagain · 26/07/2019 12:26

If you can be bothered, tell her to sign up for the free trial month. Otherwise let her kick and scream and enjoy your trip.

mussolini9 · 26/07/2019 12:26

"you don't pay for the account so you have to right to order me to delete downloads.

She is hilariously batshit!
Did it not occur to the deluded besom that SHE isn't paying for the account either? You, however, were not accessing it fraudulently. She sounds very self-centred. Well done to your DP.

browzingss · 26/07/2019 12:26

I thought about the free trial too, but judging by the sister’s behaviour I wouldn’t be surprised if she has already used up her free trial

longwayoff · 26/07/2019 12:27

CF sister. YANBU.
