Long time lurker, first time poster!

Due to go on holidays for a few days on Sunday. Not abroad, me, DH, DS 8 months and DD3. We've booked an Airbnb about 4 hours drive from home.

Around 6am this morning, DD woke crying. I dispatched DH to check on her and he brought her to our room. She was complaining of a sore tummy. Cue around 6 rounds of heaving and bringing up water (sorry if TMI!!) This lasted until about 11am when she seemed to settle down a bit and was eating and drinking small amounts. She even had a bit of lunch! I thought maybe she was a bit too warm this morning (bloody heat!!) or she was dehydrated and started to feel better as we got some fluids into her.

Fast forward to bedtime. I get her ready and pop her up. She's not settling like normal so DH goes to check on her. I hear crying so go and see what's going on. She starts projectile vomiting SadPoor thing, she's now covered in sick and bawling her eyes out.

Once we got her cleaned up and settled again, I asked DH what he wanted to do regarding the holiday on Sunday. Could we cancel/rearrange dates etc He said we couldn't or we'd lose the money we've paid and that DD would be fine by then.

AIBU to think that even if DD is fine by then, this is probably a stomach bug and will undoubtedly be passed to each of us over the next few days? Making a 4 hour drive utterly fucking miserable and a holiday away more like punishment? Or am I catastrophizing and it'll most likely be fine?!

You might be fine, you will just need to see how things go. I certainly wouldn't cancel the trip, fingers crossed 🤞

MT2017 · 25/07/2019 23:21

(cancel at this time, I mean)

Raphael34 · 25/07/2019 23:22

You’ve got 3 days yet. Just practise safe hygiene and you should all be fine by then

Fatasfooook · 25/07/2019 23:23

Kids vomit all the time without it passing through the whole family. I wouldn’t worry about that

DippyAvocado · 25/07/2019 23:32

You may be fine. DH and I have never caught tummy bugs when our DC have had them. Take precautions with washing hands and disinfecting where she has vomited.

Titsywoo · 25/07/2019 23:33

She'll likely be fine. It may be a bug but it may not. Maybe she's been too hot today. My kids have had loads of sickness bugs and DH and I have never caught one from them.

Andysbestadventure · 26/07/2019 00:33

Is it possible she has heat stroke OP?

ravenshope · 26/07/2019 03:48

could have been heat exhaustion?

Passthecherrycoke · 26/07/2019 03:54

I wouldn’t worry about it. I wouldn’t dream of losing my holiday over that. Hope she’s better today

wishihadagoodone · 26/07/2019 09:12

@Andysbestadventure
@ravenshope
I had thought it could be that yesterday but she has no other symptoms eg sore head, sweaty/clammy, chills
She slept fine last night when I eventually got her to go to bed but she's up now complaining of a sore tummy again.
And now I'm not feeling great 😭
Bloody Sod's law!!

Treaclepie19 · 26/07/2019 09:15

Eek, I hope all is okay and its just a one off.
The heat can really get to kids.

bathsoup · 26/07/2019 09:47

Get some Bimuno from boots. It works brilliantly to stop D&V in my house.

LongSummerDays · 26/07/2019 10:25

Hope she's better today xx

wishihadagoodone · 26/07/2019 20:38

Thanks @LongSummerDays
She hasn't been sick today. So fingers crossed!!🤞🏻🤞🏻
I'm always expecting the worst though. She was fine all day yesterday after her morning episode and then starting spewing at bedtime.
Checked the cancellation policy on the Airbnb and we would definitely lose all the money. Rightly so, I doubt they could sell the date again at such short notice.

Just an update if anyone's interested.

DD stopped being sick on Wednesday night. Hasn't been sick since but is a bit off her food still.
I washed, disinfected and scrubbed everything I could think of to stop it spreading.
Arrived at our holiday cottage yesterday. It's just beautiful and right on the beach.
We all had an early night because the drive seemed to zap our energy.

Guess who woke at 3am sick as a dog?🤦🏼‍♀️
I'm gutted!! Poor DD was really looking forward to an event we had planned to do and has been talking about it non-stop but I'm laid up in bed, my joints aching and being sick nearly every hour😫😫😫

No luck 😢

Oysterbabe · 29/07/2019 09:46

Can't your husband take the kids to the event so you can rest?

Windygate · 29/07/2019 09:50

DH can look after both DC and take them to the activity. You can spend the day resting.

ravenshope · 29/07/2019 09:50

oh no!
So sorry xxxx

wishihadagoodone · 29/07/2019 10:03

DD is a bit of a two man job at the minute. She's fine attending things she likes but hasn't grasped the concept of "having to leave" without a melt down. No SN, just pushing boundaries. At times, I've had to lift her under my arm (surfboard style) and strap her into the car. He wouldn't be able to manage with the pram and bags and that.

She's been such a sweetie though. She just brought me a card she made from paper in a notepad. It was all squiggles and she said "it says this is for you and I love you"😭😭

bobstersmum · 29/07/2019 10:46

I bet it will be very short lived with you op! Rest, drink little and often and take paracetamol only as its gentle on your stomach. I had noro last year and I was very ill but it was very short lived. Good luck!

wishihadagoodone · 29/07/2019 11:09

Thanks @bobstersmum
All I have is ibuprofen so I've taken two of those. And some anti-sickness tablets I was given for nausea for vertigo.

I had bad noro when DD was 11 months and it was horrendous. I asked my DM to look after DD overnight to try and stop DD getting it and it worked! Maybe I was a bit too smug this time.

I also realise this is probably the most boring thread ever 🙈but it's taking my mind off it and I'm grateful for all your replies.

When I have better 3G and stop spewing, I'll post a CF neighbour thread from a while ago.
I love CF threadsBlush

Also I swear by a simple diet of bananas and toast /bread sticks after sickness, it seems to really help recovery, then boiled eggs when your feeling better, sure you'll be back to normal tomorrow!

Jemima232 · 29/07/2019 11:24

Ibuprofen will upset your stomach even more.
