To expect my dishwasher to clean the dishes

laplayita · 25/07/2019 20:41

I have a one year old bosch dishwasher. It really isn't doing a good job of getting the dishes clean and I can't figure out why. I cleaned the whole thing, have run it empty with vinegar etc and still the same problem. I had my old one for years until it died (it was also a bosch) and it never did this.

Filled up the salt and rinse aid? Don't believe those 'complete' tablets.

dementedpixie · 25/07/2019 20:42

Did you clean the filter and spray arms? What detergent are you using?

BarbaraofSeville · 25/07/2019 20:52

Complete tablets are fine if you have soft water. We can even use normal tablets without rinse aid or salt here.

Are you loading it correctly OP? Friend moaned that the dishwasher in the rented house he had just moved into was crap but I then watched him stand all the breadknives and stirring spooons upright in the cultery basket, preventing the spinny arm doing it's thing.

I also have a 4/5 YO Bosch dishwasher and it gets just about everything properly clean.

SuzieSunshine · 25/07/2019 21:19

If it's only a year old - is it still under warranty/guarantee? If so I'd book a call-out.

Toomanycats99 · 25/07/2019 21:26

I found the tablets make a real difference. I use faith platinum I think it is. I also run it on the long eco setting and it's much cleaner.

EvaHarknessRose · 25/07/2019 21:30

Make sure there are no blockages in the little holes in the spinny arms because this stops them spinning (take them off and rinse them out).

Fill up salt and rinse aid and clear out filter.

Then place the tablet in the cutlery tray or top tray, not in the place its meant to go. Works much much better.

Piglet89 · 25/07/2019 21:51

When did you last clean the filter OP? Sorry if this is obvious and you’ve already thought of this. Also, I read Which on best tablets to use and apparently Lidl W5 all in one tablets are just as good as Finish but a fraction of the price!

Bosch are shite. Not the same brand as the
Bosch of old. You need a Miele

Buddywoo · 25/07/2019 21:59

We had this and moved onto Fairy Platinum. Expensive but everything is always beautifully clean now.

moreismore · 25/07/2019 22:07

As above but also is it definitely plumbed in correctly? Ours becomes useless with any reduction in drainage flow due to slightly blocked up drain or sink.

moreismore · 25/07/2019 22:08

Ps ours is also Bosch and gives me the rage. I’ve given up washing glasses in there for weeks at a time.

1CarefulLadyOwner · 25/07/2019 22:11

Check that all the internal plumbing aligns, when you close it.
If your top rack does not align, things will not get cleaned.
This also applies to Miele machines (believe me, I know, mine is 21 years old).

Outsomnia · 25/07/2019 22:17

Agree with Eva above. Had a similar issue, turns out there was gunge in the spinning arms. Got it out with a tiny screwdriver, there are holes there obv and never looked back.

Tabs are best. Aldi All in One are ace. Best I've ever used and so inexpensive too. Best of luck.

TheGrapefulDread · 25/07/2019 22:19

Did you check the arms for blockages of the water jets ? The filter clean ? Do you run your hottest wash as a service wash ? Is there salt and a rinse aid in it ?

stucknoue · 25/07/2019 22:20

Filter? Rice stuck in jets? We add salt even with complete capsules (which work better than tablets)

Nat6999 · 25/07/2019 22:27

My Bosch dishwasher was doing this, I used multiple cleaners but nothing changed, I swapped from tablets to powder, I fill up the slot on the door & sprinkle powder on the door for each wash, I'm getting a lot less rejects every wash. Also take the filter & give it a good scrub, I soak mine in hot water & spray with something like elbow grease & a squirt of washing up liquid.

DontCallMeShitley · 25/07/2019 22:48

I have a Bosch, it washes fine, as long as I use the right tablets. I had some Finish ones which were rubbish, but all other Finish ones are good. Trial and error.

Also check your hoses are correctly positioned as dirty water might be flowing back in, your manual/installation guide will show you, or Google it.

notmylittleangel · 25/07/2019 22:51

I actually find that the cheaper the dishwasher tablets the better the job they do.
If my husband ever gets finish we quite often have to put something g into soak and wash again, if we buy the cheap own brand it cleans perfectly.

IsobelRae23 · 25/07/2019 22:57

My old dishwasher was the same- I am now the dishwasher. On the plus side it means I now get fully clean plates, cutlery, saucepans etc, I’m debating if we are getting another or not? It’s so much quicker by hand- 10 minutes V 1 1/2 hours.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/07/2019 03:29

But you don't have to stand and do anything for the 1.5 hours, nor are you comparing like with like.

You couldn't wash up a dishwasher full of pots in 10 minutes and even if you could, you would use far more water to do so.

serenoa · 26/07/2019 05:01

My six-months-old Bosch Series 6 works brilliantly with Jantex industrial liquid dishwasher cleaner, Fairy Platinum tablets, and everything in between. I follow the cleaning regime in the manual. Using salt and rinseaid is essential for most people even if you use tablets. You might get away without if your water is at the far end of soft. My Bosch manual says to put the tablet in the little compartment at the front of the middle rack if having problems using it in the door compartment.

What I have done, is to stop it sending me text messages when it wants more rinse aid. This so-called 'internet of things' is a PITA.

MoltenMountain · 26/07/2019 05:59

Are you using tablets in a plastic cover? And are you using the ones where the plastic dissolved or the ones where you have to take the tablet out of the plastic Blush

lidoshuffle · 26/07/2019 06:42

My Bosch is useless too. I don't help by drinking black tea so the cups get very stained, but it doesn't clean them at all, and I often have to give plates an extra hand scrub too. I've tried all the suggestions above.

Never had a problem with my old Zanussi or with the cheapo work Beko, so will never be getting another Bosch.

CottonSock · 26/07/2019 06:47

My Bosch was shite. I was glad when it blew up just out of warranty. At least I could buy a new one. Replacement was a basic smeg one with 5 year warranty.
Bosch one seemed to make dishes stink.
