To consider replacing ugly plastic guttering and down pipes with cast iron?

And also tacky pvc fascia and soffits with timber or aluminium? Has anyone done this who can give me an idea on price?

House is a small(ish) three bedroom Edwardian property in the NW.

YANBU. We are in the process of doing it, not sure on cost as it is mixed in with a lot of other works including replacing upvc windows with wooden sash ones. It makes a big difference and really improves the look of a building in my opinion.

Can't recall cost, but did it in a previous Edwardian home. Improved the appearance no end.

We are currently replacing the horrid white pvc windows with timber mock sash which is a huge improvement.

I am worried that the price of the cast iron guttering etc would be eye watering and am struggling to find a company that actually does this. I can find many that deal in the plastic Hmm Apart from that, the high gable end has been pebble dashed Hmm and I don’t want to spend a fortune on the other stuff if the house is still going to look crappy with the pebble dash. I hate spending so much money on ‘boring’ jobs Grin

stone did you do the guttering, downpipes and fascia and soffits?

Down pipes - the rest was so high up, what it was made of couldn't be seen from the garden. Besides, I didn't want to have to get scaffolding up to do endless maintenance. So, got high quality pvc.

I agree re cost of 'maintenance'. We had to re do leaded stained glass windows to seal them into triple glazing, so they kept the period glamour without the period cold!
Did this 'period' restoration in loads of properties - now live in a nice new build 😱. Got fed up throwing money into buildings......but if you are there for a long time.........

YANBU I think that’d be lovely. Then again we got bespoke wooden sash windows made for our very small, low end of market house because I couldn’t bear to drive past one day and know I’d been the one who’d “ruined” the house with UPVC monstrosities.
