AIBU to be annoyed with neighbours using my bin?

Am I?

They have to pass my bins on the way to their car at the back of the houses (in a row).

Their own bins are close by at the bottom of their garden. I can't do diagrams but they just have to take a few more steps on their way back in via their back gate to use their own bin. My bins are on my land but they have access to get to their car.

I only found their stinky dog shit in my bin as they have just been emptied and I was about to clean mine (very hot weather & it really needed it!) They're relatively new neighbours and they've also been parking occasionally in my space as it's nearer their house for unloading but I let that go. Do I chuck the poo bag by their gate? Leave it by their door? Talk to them? I'm annoyed about it or should I not sweat the small stuff? WWYD?

Get a bin lock.

cakeandchampagne · 20/07/2019 17:32

It seems they need to be told to use their own parking space (even for unloading) and to use their own bins.

Agree with cakeandchampagne.

Rubber gloves on. Tip it out of yours and put the bag in their bin and clean yours as you planned. And talk to them. They'll probably stop. The problem with not addressing these relatively small things is that people like your neighbours think you don't mind/care and what they think it's acceptable to do ramps up, albeit slowly.

You can get bin locks if talking to them doesn't change their behaviour. But do mention the dog muck and the parking in your space.

Agreed with bin lock. I really can’t get worked up over this though, it’s not a huge deal.

dogshittyneighbours · 20/07/2019 17:42

Thanks all. Didn't realise you could get locks for bins.

The last time I tried speaking to them (knocked on their door) to tell them work was being done on the communal fence, they answered it glued to their phone & didn't stop their phone conversation throughout so I'm not in a hurry to knock again for a friendly chat tbh.

Upvote for bin lock

You need a gravity wheely bin lock. Google it.
In Ireland, we have to pay privately for our bin services as it's not a council service. I live in a coastal area and we used to get really fucked off by tourists (and some locals) dumping rubbish in our bins, especially in the recycling bin which we'd then have to sort before we could put the bin back out.
Gravity locks stop other people dumping stuff but they open automatically when the bin is tipped over a 45° angle.
Genius invention and pretty easy to fit them yourself.

Wow great advice thanks a gravity lock is def what I need! smearing it on their door handles may get the message across too.

I'm going to start putting stinky shit in their bin and parking in their space, see how they like it! Wink
