just wondering if it is just me that thinks this is a little bit unfair...

my DH and I moved out of our rented flat around 2 years ago, paid all the final bills etc, gave our new address to the lettings agency etc.

2 weeks ago we got a bill from edf energy, saying we owed them 90 odd quid from the flat, that hadn't been paid... so i call EDF and say we already paid the final bill, and the woman says that the meter must have been read wrongly.

last week got a letter from a debt collection agency saying were collecting this for EDF, and then today another FINAL notice saying pay up or we'll take you to court. My husband had already called both EDF and the agency to say this couldn't be right, but clearly they don't care what we think.

So - am i being unreasonable to not want to pay this company 90 odd quid because they messed up 2 years ago and our rental agency didn't pass things on to us?

i think it's pretty reasonable to be angry about it even if its unreasonable not to pay it....

Let them take you to court. I had a similar situation with council tax. I kept all the records and council turned up in court with no records, no copies of my letters and the case was thrown out. It is unreasonable to chase you after 2 yrs and how do you know that it's definately you that used the electric - once you've moved out then that's it surely!

YANBU, I agree that you should let them take you to court.

YANBU
I had a demand for £600 odd quid at the new year - the original debt was paid 7 years ago!
Let them take you to court, they are the ones who will look stupid!

sighed a massive sigh of relief just now... have found our final bill that i paid back then... i have most of the paper work...

spoke to a guy from EDF and he says something looks a little squiff (no really?!?) so i'm gonna ring and pester them again tomorrow.

evil gits. really really upset me. grr.

if they don't drop it i think i will let it go to court. tut.
