To think Borough Market police inquiry was not required??

Having seen the video footage on the news this evening, why the hell was money wasted to investigate whether the police acted lawfully or not?? The murdering bastards had machetes and knives taped to their hands and covered in their victims blood .They were tackled by so so brave off duty police men , who then called for the armed response, they followed them so they did not get away and they were then shot and killed by the police team. The police should not be investigated in something so apparently clear, they had killed people and wanted to kill more, the off duty officers were absolute supermen, the money wasted on the investigation should be given to them and the fire arms unit for going well above what any job should require, heroes, every one of them! , or even the money should go towards recruiting, maintaining and supporting all police staff?

Inquests are always held when someone dies unexpectedly or violently. And it is only fair and right that, if someone dies at the hands of an agent of the state, those circumstances ought to be investigated.

ShinyMe · 16/07/2019 19:19

There has to be a due process and investigation that's applied fairly and evenly. If you start saying 'well this one's obvious, it doesn't need investigating' then that opens up the possibilities of coverups and corruption. An investigation is about getting all the facts publicly acknowledged and recorded.

Bezalelle · 16/07/2019 19:19

It was required, IMHO. Give the police an inch and they'll take a mile.

Shakirasma · 16/07/2019 19:22

YABU when any suspect is killed by the police rather than arrested, there must always be an investigation to establish whether that action was justified or not.

In this case I clearly was, but that can never just be assumed.

Passthecherrycoke · 16/07/2019 19:25

The police aren’t allowed to kill people unless they meet strict criteria so there needs to be a full Inquiry to ensure that was the case. Would you rather the police were able to just go around killing people?

Terramirabilis · 16/07/2019 19:25

Great idea to reward police financially if they kill someone. Nothing could go wrong there. (sarcasm in case it's not obvious.)

It looks like the Daily Mail comments section is leaking again.

wowfudge · 16/07/2019 19:29

Even in a country where you can't walk around with a gun on you there are cases where police officers unlawfully shoot people. I'd rather all cases are looked into than the country be like some places in the US.

Yes to everything said above. Also, there could be lessons learnt about what could have been done differently.

OnlyaMan · 16/07/2019 21:03

The Investigation/Enquiry was really intended to find out if the Police and the Security Services could have prevented the terrorist murders. It seems they could not have done so.
There was no expectation that the Police on the scene could have acted otherwise.

ProfessorSlocombe · 16/07/2019 21:19

If the police have nothing to fear, they have nothing to hide.

On a less snippy note, it's a mark of a civilised society that it applies the law to all equally. One day you might be glad of that.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 16/07/2019 21:23

Of course it should be looked into.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 16/07/2019 21:24

Hit send too soon sorry! Of course it should be looked into. And of course in this case it should be found that the police acted lawfully; but what kind of civilisation would we have if the law wasn’t applied to all (there are still huge failings, but the principle applies)

megletthesecond · 16/07/2019 21:29

I'm glad there's an automatic enquiry when the police shoot. Even in almost certainly cut and dried cases like this. The police did an amazing job that awful night.
