Would i be unreasonable to have a back massage if I have moderate acne on my back?

It isn't painful, but I am embarrassed about it. It doesn't look pretty.

If you are a beauty therapist, would it disgust you?

My thoughts were, people often have facials for acne treatment, so I thought this would be similar

Or is it totally gross and unfair on the therapist?

(Unfortunately it's hormonal and the only way I can control it is to stop contraception. Which I can't do at the moment as we do not want any more children.)

Aww op I'm sure they wouldn't be disgusted by it, they see all sorts.

I certainly wouldn't be bothered by backne as my boyfriend has it really bad and I snuggle up behind him every night.

Marvs · 15/07/2019 17:47

Husband is a massage therapist. Wouldn’t bother him at all.

Hmmmmmmum · 15/07/2019 19:50

Wow do you think so?
I know they don't wear gloves, so thought they might rather not.

I would love a back massage as feeling stiff. But just feel a bit guilty about booking one.

Go somewhere and get a seated massage while you are clothed, if you’re self conscious about it?

funnylittlefloozie · 15/07/2019 20:40

If only beautiful people with perfect bodies went to beauty therapists, they'd all be in the dole queue. Honestly, therapists have seen it all, so as long as your acne isnt painful, you can have a massage. It might help with managing the acne as well - but you'd need to ask the therapist for her advice.

Inde95 · 15/07/2019 20:41

There's nothing disgusting about this, OP, and you shouldn't be ashamed. Maybe discuss your concerns with the beauty therapist and I'm sure they'll reassure you Smile.

Wolfiefan · 15/07/2019 20:43

Would you be at risk of infection or aggravating it if they used certain oils? Worth checking.

Tallgreenbottle · 15/07/2019 20:43

OP it could also be being caused by your shampoo and conditioner btw. Bacne normally is.

winetomorrow · 15/07/2019 20:46

You can have a 'bacial' which is like a facial for the back. They're amazing! Honestly I used to worry all the time about what the massage therapist thought but after having a baby I don't care about my fat roll (and presume they don't either). Go and enjoy!

TheTrollFairy · 15/07/2019 20:50

I used to be a therapist and we had this all the time. I think at college the first time I saw it I would have thought it odd but most salon therapists have experience of all kinds of people.

Have you thought about asking your DP to get the snip? I can’t wait for the day I can get off contraception. I hate taking it

ceebeejeebies · 15/07/2019 20:56

I think you should find somewhere that does the massage combined with other treatments that target the acne, you can have your back steamed, a mask put on and they can use particular oils and gels for your skin type. Do not be embarrassed I can guarantee they've seen much worse.

longtimelurkerhelen · 15/07/2019 21:05

I'm sure your back will be a walk in the park compared to doing back sack and crack. Grin

You will be fine, do as pp said and go to somewhere where they can do treatments on it too.

Hmmmmmmum · 15/07/2019 22:47

SmileSmileSmile thank you all! I feel so much better and confident to go for it

They’ve seen every type of back going - hairy backs, spotty backs, scarred backs, bad tan lined backs!!, chunky backs, knobbly backs...enjoy your massageSmile

Yeahnahmum · 15/07/2019 23:15

Crosspost: change to mirena for contraception (with minimal hormones. So maybe "fixes" your backne)

Handbag101 · 16/07/2019 07:08

Awww OP. Go for it. As a previous poster said you have a facial for your back. A bacial. It's a win, win. A treatment and some relaxation. Enjoy.

user1496259972 · 16/07/2019 07:29

A treatment as well as a massage sound like a good idea if you are concerned but like others have said they really won’t mind at all. It sounds like you need a massage too!

Never got on with hormonal contraceptives. I’ve had a copper coil for 6 years now (old fashioned I know!) and it’s worked a treat. Would highly recommend it.

whothedaddy · 16/07/2019 10:19

My sister is a beauty therapist. part of her training (15 or more years ago) was to find people with different kinds of issues to practice on. So really hairy people, acne, scars, medical skin conditions.

Go and treat your self
