To put it in context, had a shit wedding, always concurred that we'd make up for it by renewing vows when the time comes.

Has anyone done it? Good/bad? What did you do in terms of ceremony?

Looking for ideas!

We got married at 3 weeks notice in a registry office after finding out my Mum had terminal cancer. She wasn't able to be there as she had slipped into a coma by then, so we only had his Mum, his sister and my 2 daughters there. We had a vow renewal/ celebration a year later on the date we had originally chosen for our wedding. We did it ourselves (with the help of 2 lovely people we paid to do the washing up etc.) in a lovely old building we hired out for the day, with all our families. We had a humanist ceremony which was very personal to us, a lovely relaxed lunch (prepared by me well in advance so no stress there) lots of fizz and we provided lots of grown up non alcoholic drinks as well for the drivers. Neither of us wanted an evening do and we didn't have to entertain loads of people as it was a family event. There was enough room for a separate area for the children who came so I provided loads of colouring books and stickers, some toy cars and other quiet toys so that their parents didn't need to be stressed about entertaining them as well. We just wanted a relaxed family occasion with all our loved ones, and a chance for our blended families to meet (they live on opposite sides of the country). Not to everyone's taste I know, but we're not really party people, we just wanted to share our happiness with those we are close to.
