Who is BU traffic scenario (with diagram)

I was travelling in car A exiting a duel carriageway into my town (red crayon my path). Car B was trying to crossover the central reservation to join my side of carriageway (blue crayon his path).

As I manoeuvred to get in position to cross Car B crosses over carriageway in front of me (I had to break sharply and allow him to cross as cars were coming his way).

Cue driver of car B swearing and gesturing in my direction.

Now was IBU? He was situated at a give way point which I assume includes giving way to me. I was just following natural road markings which at no point suggests I give way to him.

His reaction leaves me unsure. Was IBU?

B was out of order. He should have waited for you.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 12/07/2019 17:03

You had right of way.

profpoopsnagle · 12/07/2019 17:04

Were you signalling to turn?

WiltedDaffs · 12/07/2019 17:04

YANBU, Car B is.

Apolloanddaphne · 12/07/2019 17:05

You were in the right. He was being an arse.

AriadneesWeb · 12/07/2019 17:05

A is wrongly positioned for turning right. Should have been further forward so the two cars could pass with their passenger sides towards each other, then their paths wouldn’t cross.

MyGirlDaisy · 12/07/2019 17:06

Car B should have waited for you to complete your manoeuvre.

CalmFizz · 12/07/2019 17:07

The major road has the right of way, so that’s you.

Was it at a busy time? Did he think you flashed or were going to wait to allow him through? Junctions like that usually rely on road users being courteous to the minor road in allowing them out or there would never be a break in traffic.

He was rude to swear audibly.

HappyintheHills · 12/07/2019 17:08

He should have waited and gone behind you.
You were on the major road.

SouthWestmom · 12/07/2019 17:09

It's the 'manoeuvring' part of your op that makes me think maybe it wasn't clear? Surely you would just slow in your lane and be indicating?

newmomof1 · 12/07/2019 17:17

He was in the wrong

AriadneesWeb · 12/07/2019 17:18

This is the path you both should have taken. If A (blue) was too far back for B to have room to cross behind then A would be wrong. If B (red) cut in front of A instead of going behind A then B would be wrong.

You had priority.

ChestyNut · 12/07/2019 17:27

I agree with Ariadnees you weren’t waiting far enough forward.

YABU

marvellousnightforamooncup · 12/07/2019 17:30

She wasn't waiting though, she was moving.

Honeybadgerz · 12/07/2019 17:36

Ariadne I wasn't stationary sorry. I drew where my car was at the point of him crossing over. I had intended to drive forward further to the appropriate turning point but would've crashed into him

OP posts:
Manclife1 · 12/07/2019 17:43

If you were moving the car would’ve had to have set off before you got there so you’ve basically made it difficult for him to finish his manoeuvre.

mummmy2017 · 12/07/2019 17:47

Main road always has right of way.
He should have waited to cross behind you...

eurochick · 12/07/2019 17:47

You were on the major road. B should have given way to you. He should have let you go then completed his manoeuvre behind your car. B was in the wrong.

AriadneesWeb · 12/07/2019 18:05

He should have let you go then completed his manoeuvre behind your car
This.

BanjoStarz · 12/07/2019 18:28

B was in the wrong, he had to cross two lines of traffic to complete his manoeuvre, A only had to cross one so has priority - even if we ignore the give way lines and the dotted lines which also indicate priority.

You were tuning right into a junction, he was turning right out of it - you would always have right of way.

Al2O3 · 12/07/2019 18:30

Do cars have sexes now?

OKBobble · 12/07/2019 18:30

You were leaving major road and therefore had priority. He was joining from minor road and therefore should have waited until the carriageway was free.
