To ask how to enjoy my evening alone

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/07/2019 15:34

Dh our for the evening and will be alone (well except for the Ddog). Usually when this happens I end up working all evening and want to try and come up with a plan to actually pamper myself a bit.

So wise people in my computer - what should I do/eat/watch/read or whatever to try and make it a little more of a treat evening.

Whatever you enjoy! For me it would be go for a run then read a book in the bath with a glass of wine and top up the hot water regularly. Slip into clean sheets and read in bed before getting a good nights sleep without one ear open for the kids!

Percypigparade · 12/07/2019 15:37

Good grief. I have a list as long as my arm of stuff I want to do.
Don't spend it all on mumsnet would be my suggestion, time passes too quickly that way. I would make something to eat that only I like, watch a movie, and go to bed fairly early with a book. In reality I'd forgo the book part and binge watch something on Netflix..

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/07/2019 15:38

Do you know I’ve never ever drunk wine in the bath! No idea why not - I can spend hours in there reading and topping up the water.

OMG why do you have to ask?

Potter around the garden. Watch the sun set. Do some exercise. Or watch a great movie. Or just rubbish on Netflix. Call a friend you haven't spoken to for ages. Open a bottle of wine. Have a looooong bath. Paint your toenails. Read a book. Go for a walk. Order a takeaway.

FizzPopping · 12/07/2019 15:39

Are there any foods you love that DH doesn't like so you don't get to have very often? When I'm out my DH always has mushroom risotto because I don't like mushrooms. I'm much more likely to give cooking a miss and either get some nice bread and things to go with it or a takeaway. I'm all about low effort!

Any films you fancy watching or a series you've been meaning to start? If you've not seen it I'd recommend Mum it's a lovely easy watch and I think all series are on iplayer

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 12/07/2019 15:41

Definitely bath. Play your music guilty pleasure and dance around after you've opened the wine. Go for a run. Do some pilates. Watch a lovely film or box set your DH wouldn't like - have you seen Good Girls on Netflix yet?

happyhillock · 12/07/2019 15:45

Bath, orderer a take takeaway, plant yourself in front of the tv with a few glasses of wine

bridgetreilly · 12/07/2019 15:47

Federer vs Nadal, obviously! With prosecco and popcorn*.

*Insert snacks of your choice.

PizzaTaste · 12/07/2019 15:48

So many things!

Make or order your favourite food, have a bath and all the bubbles, face mask, etc.

Get your favourite drink

Watch whatever you want

Ahhh bliss

FlowerTink · 12/07/2019 15:49

Takeaway and some TV or a movie you like. Or be like me and binge watch Netflix for the evening

goodwinter · 12/07/2019 15:52

Surprised to see so many people suggesting a hot bath in this weather! For me it would be Netflix and a takeaway.

Livebythecoast · 12/07/2019 15:52
  1. pour a mahoosive glass of wine whilst you think about what you're going to do.
  2. run a lovely bubble bath.
  3. repeat step 1..
  4. order a takeaway
  5. repeat step 1
  6. eat your food
  7. repeat step 1 ...... You get the point! 🍷 enjoy!
LazyLemur · 12/07/2019 15:58

Ahhh. Heaven. This is what I'd do:
Change bedsheets.
Long bath with a G&T and a cup of coffee. Face mask and pamper.
Then favourite takeaway or snack (depending on how hungry)
Then watch my favourite celebrity men/trashy fake reality TV in bed.
Amazing.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/07/2019 16:56

Love the idea of nice clean bedding, but not sure I can be bothered with the changing of them (my most loathed chore which I tend to get DH to do).

Haven't watched Good Girls yet, will take a look.

Wish I hadn't read this as I too have a night in sans husband and really can't be arsed to go for a run. But so many of you have said go for a run, I might have to now.

On another matter, I think wine in the bath is AWFUL! And I LOVE baths and LOVE wine. But at the same time, urgh no!

TheLime · 12/07/2019 17:22

Have a bath.
Make a cooked chorizo and prawn salad with loads of olive bread.
Drink a bottle of rose, in the garden until the light fades then move inside for love island on catch up.
Read in bed with a g and t or cup of tea

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/07/2019 17:23

@thelime that actually sounds heavenly - glad you mentioned olive bread am taking the dog out in a sec and the fancy bakery is open until 7 Grin

LaurieMarlow · 12/07/2019 17:24

Wine, Deliveroo, Netflix, Bath.

Sounds amazing.

goodwinter · 12/07/2019 18:34

Good Girls is great!

TheLime · 12/07/2019 18:40

Enjoy! Try and get some president slightly salted butter too.

I’m seeing Jerry Seinfeld live tonight but otherwise I would have talked myself into that too.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/07/2019 19:02

Thanks all - have just done a lovely shop getting al my favourite bits plus new pyjamas and a face mask!

I'm also feeling lame tonight. I have a very rare evening to myself. I heard of a late night Zumba event in a night club I loved the sound of. But instead I am at home lying in front of the TV drinking wine and eating crisps and salmon and cheese on toast!

MyKingdomForACaramel · 12/07/2019 22:37

@bordello - oh wow late night Zumba sounds fab - but bet I’d do the same

Sparklesocks · 12/07/2019 22:43

Normally when my DP is out I watch all the shit on Netflix he doesn’t like, cook myself a dinner he doesn’t eat and have a lovely chilled out evening with whisky. I also sometimes stick a face mask on and I’ll emerge suddenly gorgeous Grin
