To worry about needing a seatbelt extender?

On a plane....I'm going abroad for the first time in 10 years but am overweight. I'm not bothered about how I look on holiday as I'm quite body confident, its just this fear of not fitting in the seatbelt! Can anyone tell me what to expect please x

You might need the extender or you might not. The seatbelt lengths vary from airline to airline.
There is absolutely no need to be embarrassed about asking for an extender if you need one. The stewards are used to handing them out and they would rather you had a properly fitted belt than struggle for the full flight.
I think you can order the extender in advance if you think that would be more discreet.
Enjoy your holiday!

What size are you? I've been a 22 and have never needed an extender or even needed the normal seatbelt out to the max. DH is a big bloke and neither has he. I'm sure you'll be fine.

dementedpixie · 11/07/2019 22:34

I'm about 16 stone and don't need one

SoCockneyItHurts · 11/07/2019 22:35

I'm a size 20 with a big bum and big thighs! Hope

Who are you flying with op?

SoCockneyItHurts · 11/07/2019 22:39

Tui Dreamliner

I’m similar size to you and didn’t need one on Air France.

Crockof · 11/07/2019 22:42

Dreamliner is by far the best for a big arse. (I know!) I'm a 20/22 and still had a bit left on the belt to extend without needing an extender. Fwiw my friend needed one and the crew were very discreet. I've been on Ryanair at size 18 and it's been v tight.

Spookydot · 11/07/2019 22:44

I flew budget airline with a friend who wasn’t size 18-20 and she had more than enough room with standard belt and didn’t need extender.
You might be able to find information online about your planes specific seat measurements if you want to double check. But I think you’ll be fine.

WaitrosePigeon · 11/07/2019 22:45

I’m 19st and didn’t need one last month on an easy jet flight.

Spookydot · 11/07/2019 22:45

Sorry that should have said she WAS a size 18-20

Dadadadadaa · 11/07/2019 22:45

Please don't worry. My dh always needs a seatbelt extender. You can just discreetly ask an air-steward for one and they will fetch it and bring it to you. No worries at all. I don't think you can sit in one of the seats by the door if you have an extender (although this might be airline specific).

ByeGermsByeWorries · 11/07/2019 22:46

Size 24 didn't need one on Thomas cook

00deed1988 · 11/07/2019 22:47

When I was a size 20 I didn't need one. Huge belly bum and thighs.

My nan was a size 30 and she needed one just about. But wasn't much in it tbh.

I wouldn't worry too much!

SoCockneyItHurts · 11/07/2019 22:53

Thank you all so much x very reassuring! :)

How many pounds would a size 20 be? And how tall are you?

Pinkyponkcustard · 12/07/2019 07:24

Think you’ll be ok on a Dreamliner op

timeandtimeagain42 · 12/07/2019 07:38

You can buy your own in EBay for less than a tenner. That's what I did. Carry it in your handbag and pop in on if necessary. Nobody's ever commented and no need to ask for one which can be tricky or embarrassing if they're busy.
