How to rent a holiday cottage.

Withnailandaye · 10/07/2019 15:03

Wonder if any kind mumsnetters could help me with this?
I want to go on a one-two night break away, mid week in August.
Would ideally like some thing rural, cottage maybe?? But must have a hot tub.
Not a huge budget either. Maybe £200 in total. It's for two adults and in the northumbeland area.

Where can I find this!? All that keeps coming up when I search are links to sites that all start off ok but then it doubles in price by the time I get to checkout/whatever. 🙄

There has to be an easier way!

That's a very low budget for such accommodation in August!
Have you tried Airbnb?

MyOpinionIsValid · 10/07/2019 15:05

But must have a hot tub.

oh aye Grin

TeuchterTraveller · 10/07/2019 15:07

booking.com ?

But August, with hot tub at this late stage may be a bit optimistic.

Grin

I was thinking of trying airbnb but we had a bad experience with them a while ago.

Do you think it's out of budget?? I'd rather know then I can look for something else and save any disappointment.

We've used sykescottages.com

TeuchterTraveller · 10/07/2019 15:15

Unlikely you'll find a cottage offering 1-2 night breaks at the height of the season. You might have more luck finding a hotel with spa/pool for a couple of nights.

Holycrapster · 10/07/2019 15:15

I think you'll struggle with a cottage for a 1-2 night break. It's not really cost effective for owners with the cleaning and running costs. Also a lot will be sat or Fri bookings in the summer hols. I'd go straight to Airbnb and put hot tub as a filter or a hoseasons lodge (but that would have set days of the week start dates)

heath48 · 10/07/2019 15:16

You are unlikely to get a two night break in August,High Season.Even cottages that are vacant usually only rent Monday-Friday.

£200 is way to low a budget if you want a hot tub, even if you can find somewhere.I would think £500 is more realistic.

Where I go in Cornwall is £2000 a week in August.

soulrunner · 10/07/2019 15:17

The issue may be that most places are 5/7 day minimum in August.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 10/07/2019 15:17

You want to book August now?....😂 good luck with that. If it’s available now for August it won’t be much good, anything decent will be booked by now.

You won’t get budget in August, it’s the school holiday so they cash in

Also a lot of cottages on the sites I use don’t rent for 1-2 nights, in peak season (I.e August) it’s 5 as a minimum. You could try air b&b but I don’t rate them at all.

Also a hot tub for £200 is very optimistic for August. You need to be more realistic

soulrunner · 10/07/2019 15:17

Sorry- cross posted with 4 other people- a record, surely???

pelirocco123 · 10/07/2019 15:20

Hot tubs , home of fecal matter

no , really dont

Elphame · 10/07/2019 15:24

AirBnB is your best bet or a Travelodge.

And a bigger budget.

If you were to find something for that price in August you may need to don your own rubber gloves and hope that they haven't been skimping on the hot tub hygiene.

Withnailandaye · 10/07/2019 15:24

Ah shit.

Thanks anyway.

You're no more likely to get a bad experience with Airbnb than any other site as they are all just platforms for people to list their properties.
Airbnb have options for holiday let's for 2 nights midweek in August for under £200 but no hot tub!!

homemadegin · 10/07/2019 16:07

Agree with others comments, to short a stay for self catering August.

However, because I'm local ish there is a place in Alnwick, a guest house called birdsong cottage. It has a room called the haven, which has a hot tub and availability August. Not sure prices, might need to contact owner and discuss.

Montybojangles · 10/07/2019 16:22

Tripadvisor can be helpful, as you can check reviews as well. This place is a little more than you say, but not too much, and looks to have availability the last week in August..... www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g504036-d3799561-Seabreeze_cottage_private_beach_access_With_Hot_Tub-Beadnell_Northumberland_England.html

Withnailandaye · 10/07/2019 16:22

Perfect himemadegin
160 per night and just what I was looking for Smile

Good ole mumsnet!

OP posts:
Loudlady34 · 10/07/2019 16:36

You won't get that now. Things like that are booked months in advance, it's peak season and they won't do 1 or 2 night stays.

Withnailandaye · 10/07/2019 17:21

Funny that, how come I've just booked it for 1 night at the beginning of August then??
🤔

Where there's a will there's a way!

Again homemadegin thanks for the recommendation. We can't wait! Grin

homemadegin · 10/07/2019 17:47

Ah cool. That's good, they show as having availability certainly.

If you can forego the hot tub in exchange for a beach and amazing rooms and baths my absolute favourite place in Northumberland is the joiners arms. Outstanding.

TyneTeas · 10/07/2019 17:54

It's not a cottage but is this any good, minimum stay two nights with hot tub in Northumberland.

It's a really nice site
