Abortion & same-sex marriage in NI - a breakthrough?

Today the UK Govt voted overwhelmingly for NI to have equal rights regarding access to abortion services and the right to have a same-sex marriage. According to the UN (and most people with a double digit IQ) it contravenes our human rights. Anyone else think not having a Govt here may actually be beneficial? (for once!)

If it doesn't "miraculously" send our so called govt scuttling back to work to block it, it's great news. Start dragging NI towards the 20th century (21st might be too optimistic yet Grin)

That is my exact concern - that they'll turn up at Stormont en masse to specifically vote down the proposals and then scurry off again leaving us all back at square one in the dark ages.

Well it's complicated - it's unclear how this would be legislated for.

I actually think it would suit the DUP as they could then absolve themselves of responsibility - it was themuns in London.

But remember the DUP are into the whole "no surrender" thing - I can't see them rolling over on this topic, more's the pity. Plus the DUP would see it as SF and Alliance achieving one of their goals/wishes and I can't see them being happy about that.

I think they're playing to the gallery. Core supporters don't want this but moderates whose vote they need do.

Plus it removes one of SF's red lines with no "climbdown" on the DUPs part.
