AIBU to wonder what this noise is?

What is this noise? It’s 2am and keeping me awake!

It’s sort of rhythmical squeaking crying noise. It’s coming from outside, possibly from a hedge. It’s goes for two minutes, stops for 30 seconds then starts again. Live in suburbs of a big city.

I thought it was an alarm, or air leaking from a radiator at first, but it’s outside.

What on earth is it? I’m too much of a wuss to go out in the dark and see.

Probably rabbits making sweet rabbity love. They make a right old racket!

b0bb1n · 09/07/2019 03:31

Maybe a fox, they always make the weirdest sounds.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/07/2019 03:33

Do you live near a railway. Track maintenance makes the most bizarre noise.

thebelt344 · 09/07/2019 03:36

probably children in the bushes

Gingerkittykat · 09/07/2019 05:06

Hedgehogs? They can make an unbelievable amount of noise for such tiny animals.

HennyPennyHorror · 09/07/2019 05:16

Hedgehogs as PP said are terribly loud. I thought I had an intruder in my back garden once and it was a bloody hedgehog!

pebbleo · 09/07/2019 05:33

@thebelt344 omg.... that's the freakiest suggestion....

FredaFrogspawn · 09/07/2019 05:36

Sure there’s not a moped tucked in the bushes? Their alarms are most irritating.

Gingerkittykat · 09/07/2019 13:46

@HennyPennyHorror

I was close to calling the police several times over a period of a few weeks because of banging outside. It really sounded like someone was breaking into the shed. One night I went out with my torch and found this little hedgehog just banging away at the fence and patio. I've no idea why it was banging, or how it was physically able to make so much noise but it terrified me at the time.

GruciusMalfoy · 09/07/2019 14:15

I didn't realise hedgehogs could be so noisy! Foxes too, I once thought someone was being attacked outside my home (quiet area, not used to much night time noise) before we realised it was a fox screaming repeatedly.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 09/07/2019 19:50

Mystery solved, possibly. On my walk to work this morning, I encountered a dead fox. That might account for the screaming. I did watch some hedgehog videos, and the sounds are similar.
