In thinking chips...

...get more disgusting the closer you get to a pier? It's like the chipmongers think the piery ambiance offsets the dry chewiness of their product, so they don't try as much as their pierless competitors.

How long are you in Grimsby & Cleethorpes for? Might be able to recommend some other eateries. Smile

MissConductUS · 08/07/2019 16:05

So you seek peerless chips, is that about it?

Doubleraspberry · 08/07/2019 16:12

I live nowhere near any decent fish and chip shops at all. It’s horrible. I am hours from good chips. Everywhere round me uses palm oil, pre-cut chips and frozen fish. Everywhere.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 08/07/2019 16:31

I had fish and chips on the pier at Cleethorpes last year and can highly recommend them too!

Mysterian · 08/07/2019 19:25

I'm down Lincoln way Fuzzy.

YANBU winning on 64% so far. It is now a fact that piers negatively affect chips. Science in action here!

You just need to find the right plaice op.

NameChangeNugget · 08/07/2019 19:37

I absolutely love chips and the best I’ve ever had were in Bruges.

In the UK, the best i’ve by the coast, were in Brightlingsea & Aldeburgh. Whitby was good too.

Baguetteaboutit · 08/07/2019 19:44

The chip shop near the pier in Saltburn is ace and in the top 20 fish and chip shops in the UK, if the big bloody banner on it is to be believed.

hazell42 · 08/07/2019 19:54

I always find chips disappointing. I like the thought of them, but rarely actually eat more than 2 or 3.
Same for burgers.
And most takeaway food, tbh.
Apart from Chinese

cantfindname · 08/07/2019 19:58

Minehead - loads of places to buy chips but the best one used to be the restaurant/takeaway near the Summerfield road carpark. The tourists rarely found it but the locals loved it.

Big non-greasy pieces of fish and perfect chips!

OMG I could eat that right now!

TSSDNCOP · 08/07/2019 20:11

IMHO you need to visit the chippy that's in the road that runs parallel to the promenade.

Never eat anything on the pier.

I recommend the crazy golf in the gardens of Bournemouth. Very nicely kept.

mumwon · 08/07/2019 20:12

2 places I remember for the best (fish &) chips - on the front Isle of Skye
& Manly (Sydney!) at the ferry terminal (to die for different fish & chips with side salad

IncyWincyGrownUp · 08/07/2019 21:06

The best fish supper I’ve ever had was from a dinky chip shop in Kirkcaldy.

underthebridgedowntown · 08/07/2019 21:46

All sellers of chips shall now be called chipmongers in my mind. Thank you for this gift OP

MissConductUS · 08/07/2019 22:44

Best fish and chips I've ever had were here, right by the pier. They've a fish market too, nothing is ever frozen.

Finn's Seafood

RockinHippy · 09/07/2019 12:01

Sandybval

I need to find that chippySmile

Tbh I've found fish & chips here in Brighton far from good, but I'm north eastern & ive always found chippys up there far far better & I do miss that. There was a great one locally ran by a Chinese guy who started off up north, but sadly it folded & it's replacement, though trying to be very poncy, is disgusting, worst I've ever had Sad

The Pier is the best I've had, but I hate having to fight my way through drunk crowds to get there on an evening, so yours sounds perfect & im guessing it's very close to us too 🤞🤞

Sandybval · 09/07/2019 17:31

@RockinHippy I'll have to try and remember the name, I am not overly familiar with Brighton, but I used to hop on the Thameslink in the summer now and then when I needed to escape the city, and I love it! I do remember it was along the beach near to the public toilets (I only remember as I walked straight forward towards the sea with them and walked past the loos!), and it had a blue frontage but no seats inside just some picnic benches outside. I'll have a Google as I would definitely recognise it if I saw it;

gingerscot · 09/07/2019 17:36

@IncyWincyGrownUp - me too!

Asta19 · 09/07/2019 17:37

I live in London, not far from the centre, and there's a local cheap chippy here that does the best fish and chips I ever tasted! The fish is huge and tastes fresh, the chips are just right and they do a great curry sauce (I like chips in curry sauce!). I've always been disappointed by the seaside ones.
