Reserved hotel room in advance

Hi I reserved a hotel with booking.com a few months ago. I reserved the room to pay on arrival/cancel up to 48 hours before arrival.
Our holiday is 2 weeks away.
I'm now in a position to pay in full before we arrive, the advantage is this is much cheaper, nearly £100 saving.
Could I re book a superior room ( they are still available) pay in full @ saver rate/no cancellations, then cancel my orginal booking?
All same name/details of stay etc. Or am I a CF?
( I really hope not )

No you aren't.

If you booked a room and it went down in price, the Hotel wouldn't give you a discount.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Just cancel and then rebook.

Do it. I've done the equivalent. As long as you then cancel the earlier booking straight away so the hotel has as much time as possible to take a new booking, it's morally fine.

Meant to say - make the new booking first so you know it's definitely ok, but then straight away cancel the original booking.

I do this all the time. It's the hotels decision on what they charge and whether they allow cancellations up until the day/week before so you're doing nothing wrong or that they dont allow.
