I have never done this. Is this a thing?!

I've just read this from Which about cleaning a baby's cot mattress..... I've never cleaned my son's cot mattress and he's been in it 6 months. The article mentions the need to 'Vacuum all sides of the cot mattress'.

I change the sheet of course and wash the matress protector if anything gets on it but '13% of parents wipe the matress daily'.

Did I miss the memo here? Am I misunderstanding the article? Am I being unreasonable to think this can't be a thing or do I need to get my house in order?!

That's my Sunday sorted!

I hoover the kids mattresses every few weeks as DD has a dust allergy and the specialist advised us to. I wouldn't have thought to do it otherwise though, and I never do our own mattress, though I probably should.

There is a really gross video on YouTube where someone vacuums a mattress and you can literally see the amount of shit that comes off it Shock

I’ve never heard of it. But I’m hoovering my mattress in the morning as I have never done it in all the time we’ve owned the bed!

RubberTreePlant · 07/07/2019 02:05

The 13% wiping daily are over anxious or have MH issues of some kind.

Sobeyondthehills · 07/07/2019 02:17

I read this a few years ago on here, I hoovered our mattress once a week for six weeks.

I got fuck all and my partner has psoriasis

Our cot mattress had a waterproof top so I used to wipe it down with a baby wipe when changing the sheets. It took 30 seconds and was damp dusting so lifted the dust off.

My children's cot mattress wasn't plastic covered so couldn't be damp wiped down - so I never did it.
I did vacuum it though.

And I now have a mattress vacuum with UV light that is supposed to help with bed bug removal - not that I've ever seen or suspected that we have bed bugs, but I live in Australia which is rife with all sorts of vermin, and we have an old house which seems to offer an open door policy to most of them, so y'know - better safe than sorry!

I hoover all of the mattresses in my house at least once a month so it sounds normal to me.

fuzzyduck1 · 07/07/2019 03:48

Hover the mattress? The only person I’ve ever known to hover a mattress is a hover salesman

Makes sense though you do spend 1/3 of your life in a bed so 1/3 of the skin you shed ends up in your bed.

But not even our floors get hovered once a month.

I've never heard of hoovering mattresses. Can't imagine I'm about to start.
