To be annoyed with my own stupidity?

Applied for a job knowing that the interview date was Monday the 8th. After quite a few knock backs I applied not really thinking I would hear anything. I also assumed that if I did hear back it would be a phone call.

So my stupid self has only just checked their email this evening to find out I have an interview Monday at 11.

Well what’s the issue? I hear you beginning to type...

Well I have a minor medical procedure on Monday morning that I have been waiting over 8 months just for this scheduled appointment (ongoing issue for several years). Im not sure how long it will take although I am pretty sure it won’t be more than 2 hours. The appointment is 8.30 and it’s a 1hour40 commute for the interview.

Kicking myself whilst also hoping and wishing the employer will be flexible though I am sure they won’t need to be.

What. An. Idiot. I. Am.

oh OP what a pity you didn't see the email earlier.

I would reply to the email, someone might see it over the weekend. If you get no reply the only thing you can do is contact them by phone first thing Monday morning.

When you contact them explain you have a hospital procedure that you have been waiting for 8 months for which has been scheduled for Monday morning. Ask would it be possible to reschedule your interview. Apologise.for the inconvenience but there is no reason you need to go into details about forgetting the date and not noticing the email. For all they know the hospital contacted you today with a cancellation.

Don't beat yourself up they either can change it and will or they can't or won't. There is nothing more you can do.

Did you not have to confirm you could attend the interview at 11am anyway? It may be that you're not on their list now.

You're not going to make it to both appointments let's face it. Hospital procedures always over-run.

You should phone the people who invited you to interview first thing and just say you've had to go to hospital and could they see you another date instead?

Snowy81 · 05/07/2019 22:33

If you haven’t confirmed they may have already filled your place on Monday now.

FeelingStupid101 · 05/07/2019 22:37

Yes this is something I’m unsure about. I am surprised that they didn’t phone. I’m also unsure how many other candidates there may be so perhaps it will not be feasible anyway.

Trying not to get my hopes up but also preparing everything just in case I can make a rescheduled interview. However I highly doubt it will be for a different day - they will likely choose someone on the day.

Poop. Poop. Poop.

Can’t bear to miss out and face unemployment for the foreseeable.

Call them early on Monday but also send an email now asking if you can reschedule as you have been given a cancelled appointment and have been waiting a while and can't miss the appointment. I am sure they will understand. If they want to see you then they will re schedule. Good luck OP with both! X

FeelingStupid101 · 05/07/2019 22:42

Can’t understand why they emailed instead of phoning...

Oh well there is no use worrying now. I’ll just have to wait and phone Monday!

Already emailed and apologised for missing them. Just kicking myself I didn’t check my emails sooner! 😒

Definitely email that you have received a lady minute cancellation for a long awaited procedure.

Then also ring Monday morning so that they hear the same thing from you directly.

Stress the last minute nature of the call and how long you have been waiting.
🤞🤞

*last minute

OP don't beat yourself up, my role involves a lot of arranging interviews.

I always phone the candidate to ensure it's a suitable time for all they know you could be working on Monday.

I doubt they will be expecting you on Monday, so give them a call to rescheduled, you could always say the email was in your junk folder.

Good luck :)

FeelingStupid101 · 08/07/2019 10:34

So called first thing and they were expecting me and were able to push back the interview until 11.15 but I ended up having to ring back and apologise as with traffic etc I wouldn’t be able to get there.

Gutted, annoyed and feeling a bit shit. Oh well. It just wasn’t meant to be!
