Just that really.

All primary schools do them but as far as I can see most parents, kids and teacher hate them.

Nope. I hated it

However my dd loved it and my ds enjoyed his pre-school race though he whinged and cried through the whole thing before it

Totally disagree, most people - parents children and even staff enjoy them at my school. A few people dislike it but generally a good event. Maybe helped by the fact that they compete in teams so not so much focus on the individual.

I like the kids’ excitement and enthusiasm about every race.
I like the competiton between the houses and the excitement at winning.
I like the special fun races put on for the yr 6 leavers.
I like the way it brings in all the parents and grandparents etc in a way other school events can’t quite muster.

But...
I hate being forced to do parents’ race.
I hate it when I can’t get time off work and disappoint my kids.

I don't think most people hate them.

Oh, and staff seem to love it at our school. They were all grinning and giggling all the way through this year. I think it helped that it was very well organised and there was absolutely no waiting around this year. Followed by the teachers and yr 6s dunking the HT in water. Came across as very happy 🙂

We love sports day! DS is academic and not sporty at all. He has no chance of winning any of the events, but he truly enjoys the day. I love seeing him having so much fun and just enjoying taking part. I don't know anyone that hates it.

StillMedusa · 05/07/2019 19:13

Detest it. But that's because it's all ' team points' no winners or losers (which I happen to think is a good thing and also gives children who aren't academic have a chance to shine) and also because we are a joint mainstream/special school site and the 'incusion' is NOT inclusive.
(TA on the special side here!)

To be fair I didn't enjoy my own kids' sports days either..or my own!!
