phone confiscated at school

To ask what happens if your DC get their phone taken at school by the teachers. At DDs school the school hold it for 48 hours and a parent has to collect it afterwards. Thought this was normal and it’s discouraged DD from using her phone at lunch etc but a friend of mine said that at her DDs school, the girls collect their phones from the teacher who confiscated it at the end of the school day?

Collected on a Friday after school, by parent.

Depends on the school. Varies massively. Not an issue if its switched off and in bag, though!

It's up to the school surely? As long as they inform you what their policy is you are agreeing to abide by it when you enrol your child.

Ours was collected on Friday by a parent.

Ah okay. Yeah I thought ours was normal. Thanks guys

I imagine it varies but at DS school it’s confiscated and then parent collects at the end of the day.

It’s only on the 3rd incidence of being caught using their phone that it’s confiscated, then the slate is wiped clean.

Collected by the child at 4pm (school finishes 3.15pm so it means they have to hang around).

depends massively, as do rules about phones.
Just toive an example, ds and dd go to the girls and boys schools right next door to each other.
boys school - phones expected to be out of sight in lessons, all used during break and lunch, if teacher is feeling strict they will take away phones, phones returned to child at the end of the day. Pretty relaxed, as long as they aren't on them in lessons.

girls school, has a no phones policy, phone has to be turned to silent and out if sight in their bag at all times, from 8:30 to 3;25. If a teacher sees a phone, it is removed. Very strict. Phone returned at end of day.

Friend's school - no phones on site, if you need one (travel, SEN and need it after school etc) then phones have to be handed in to reception beofre school, and collected from there after school. Any phone found on site is confiscated, returned to parent not to child (along with a reminder about rules)

Keep for two weeks and returned only to parent/guardian !

Tough love, but it's worked.

My school used to say it had to be collected by a parent no earlier than the end of the following school day. But then they just gave them back anyway.
