Worrying about neighbours bins

So our bins are collected fortnightly, only this week they weren’t due to people parking like idiots and blocking access.

I’ve just found out they are being collected this afternoon, I’m working from home but a lot of my neighbours are out and I can see on the street that a lot of their bins are no longer along the pavement.

Half of me is tempted to go along the street pulling them all to the pavement - will I look like a crazy lady if I do that?! Obviously if they’re in their gardens I wouldn’t go for them but I can see some are just tucked by garages. Or would the bin men have the sense to grab those anyway?!

If you feel you have the time to be neighbourly than do so
The bin men wont bother. They have 'da rulz' - bins on the pavement or no takey-away.

I think you'll look absolutely insane but I think it's a really kind and neighbourly thing to do. If you have time, do it.

Ijustwanttoretire · 04/07/2019 13:43

If said neighbours were the ones parking like idiots I'd say stuff it, let them learn not to park so bin lorries (and presumably fire engines and ambulances) can't get past. However 10/10 for being so nice as to consider doing it. I wish I had a neighbour like you -instead of the tossers I do have-

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 04/07/2019 13:45

If you were my neighbour I would be so grateful!!

There's nothing worse than missing a fortnightly collection, especially in this heat.

Idontwanttotalk · 04/07/2019 13:47

I'm sure people won't mind if you can see their bins and just put them where they will be collected.
I wouldn't think you are crazy and, if most are out, they aren't there to see you do it. IME the bin men don't usually exercise their grey matter so will probably only collect them if they are in the correct place.

Brandnewshit · 04/07/2019 13:47

It's the kind of thing id do, if you can do it go for it!

ThePhoenixRises · 04/07/2019 13:51

Check no rouge parcels have been chucked in first.

TheInvestigator · 04/07/2019 13:52

We take each other's bins in and out every week. Whoever is out first in the morning tends to grab the neighbours bins off their drives and whoever is home first, puts them back.
Never done it for the whole road before though! But I would do it.

TheInvestigator · 04/07/2019 13:52

Oh yeah! Check there aren't any parcels been delivered to the bins. That's a good point!

PepsiLola · 04/07/2019 13:54

We have a neighbour that does this, and I absolutely love him! 😂 I always forget

Owlbert · 04/07/2019 14:08

I would be over the moon if you did this as my neighbour! Surely no one wants stinky bins that have been festering for weeks. I would definitely pull out all the ones I could see but as a pp said check for parcels first!

DontCallMeShitley · 04/07/2019 14:08

You will spot the parcels easily if they are rouge, but look carefully for the black ones.

SilentAlarm · 04/07/2019 14:10

I did the nearest few but didn’t think to check parcels... oops! The bin men have just been anyway and they actually did the ones further down that I had left, we must have good bin men!!

Do it for immediate neighbours maybe not the whole road, especially if it's very long. It would be considerate of you to do so. Many binmen won't take them if they are a few inches too far away from the boundary, as we all know.
