to moan about my neighbours construction work?

I know. They're entitled to their extension. I'm actually happy for them as they've wanted to build it for years.

I just need to moan. It's so loud. My house shakes. My 8 month old can't nap properly and hasn't been able to for 2 months. It's going to be going on for another 3 months at least. So most of summer. My garden is dusty. My dogs bark at the houses as it spoils them. The builders talk loudly all day. I have no privacy in my garden as there are men up on scaffolding.

It's doing my head in. I have no right to complain and as I said, they're entitled to their extension, but I'm so tired of it. I'm using AIBU to have my moan, and probably be told I'm being U....

It's just, so loud... anyone else had this?

5 months for an extension! Your neighbours are having the piss taken out of them!

But.... yes moan away. It's grim.

grolly · 01/07/2019 08:53

@mustdrivesoon it's massive, and they're having various other things done too. It's a really old house so they're restructuring some of it. It's a nightmare.

I'm on a corner terrace. The house next door had a massive water leak a few years back. All interior walls had to be removed and rebuilt, all ceilings the sane. Even the staircase had to be removed and rebuilt.

Totally unplanned for and totally not their fault, but the work went on for months, banging all day every day.

I feel your pain.

aliensprig · 01/07/2019 09:08

Totally understand, I'd be fed up too. I expect your neighbours aren't too thrilled about it either.

In contrast, we just moved house and discovered a serious gas leak in the garage, which obviously we had to get sorted asap. Our new neighbours actually complained to us about the "unsightly" hole the engineers had to dig in front of the house to fix the problem... 🤦🏻‍♀️

Tingface · 01/07/2019 09:13

Oh that sounds like HELL. I’m so sorry.

grolly · 01/07/2019 09:15

It's bloody awful! I feel sorry for the neighbours too though. They're well aware of the noise! They apologise every time we see them.

I was this neighbour . Our extension seemed to go on forever. It involved cranes, loud jackhammers, builders radios , cement mixers blocking the street.
Neighbours started asking if we were building the Taj Mahal.

grolly · 01/07/2019 09:21

Bet it's lovely though @Ferfeckssake ! Smile

I’m having building work done at the moment and. If it’s any consolation I’m hating it too. It’s bloody awful.

I’m buying my neighbours wine every so often to say sorry 😬

I read the title and thought oh no this could be me Blush but no one next to me has a baby. I feel your pain op. We're having an extension done at the moment and it's dragging on and I feel so bad for my neighbours. They're all being lovely about it though.

SapatSea · 01/07/2019 09:26

I feel for you. I had this last summer, starting at the beginning of June and going into October, it was just a kitchen side extension but just went on and on. Couldn't use the garden all through the heatwave or open windows, dry washing. Everything covered in a thick layer of dust at the back for months. Noise could start anytime from 7am onward. I work from home and was also ill with a balance issue. My neighbour who was having the work done buggered off for most of it .

It was the summer of hell. I really resented the clean up after. Neighbour is much better off than me so has cleaners, gardeners etc coming in.No work for her. Now the neighbour on the other side has told me she is about to start her extension.. grrr...

Stay strong. This too shall pass

Ferfeckssake · 01/07/2019 10:18
  • @grolly* Well , yes it did turn really nice. So much so , that a lot of neighbours ( newish estate) turned up to ask to see it and to recommend the builder. He ended up doing a lot of other properties around here. So then I had the joy of listening to their building works. All calm now .Grin

Have some Cakeop. We had scaffolding up last year to have our house painted, ll left it up from March to October!! Threatened to hang Halloween stuff on it. Cf builder suggested they leave it so I could hang christmas lights up!!
