to ask if audiobooks device without a camera exists?

My DD will have a longer journey to school from September. She will be going on school transport where electronic devices can be used as long as they have no camera/recording system (due to anti-bullying policy, which I agree with). The camera can't just be disabled, the device can't have one.

DD would love to be able to listen to audiobooks but everything I can think of (phone, tablet) has a built in camera. I don't think a kindle plays audiobooks? Is there something else that I'm missing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What about a cheap MP3 player or an iPod shuffle?

Stevienickssleeves · 30/06/2019 18:58

Mp3 player if you have the audiobooks in mp3 format. Where do you get audiobooks from?

Stickmangate · 30/06/2019 18:58

What about an iPod?

sackrifice · 30/06/2019 18:59

You mean like an iPod?

Pigpogtastic · 30/06/2019 19:01

The Kindle Paperwhite supports Audible.

yunalis · 30/06/2019 19:01

The kindle oasis does audio books but is very pricy.

DavidBowiesBulge · 30/06/2019 19:02

Depends where you're getting your audiobooks and what format they're in. An MP3 player compatible with that formay would do the trick.

Or burn onto a cd and use a walkman? Very retro.

yunalis · 30/06/2019 19:03

I'm sure the sandisk players supported audio books and they're very cheap.

New kindle plays audiobooks. You just need Bluetooth headphone

listeningbus · 30/06/2019 19:49

Thanks so much everyone, that's really helpful.
I don't listen to audiobooks myself so didn't know they came as an mp3. Does anyone have experience of playing audiobooks from audible on an ipod or other mp3 player?
I will look into the newer kindle option. I have an older kindle that doesn't play audiobooks at all.

You can certainly put audible purchases into iTunes and load them onto an ipod. And you can almost certainly buy old school ipods (ie just basic mp3 player with no photos etc) on ebay. I have a nano that I use just like this.

listeningbus · 30/06/2019 20:27

Thanks [mrsfrisby] that's really helpful as I have an old ipod and it would be ideal if I could use it for this purpose! DD has form for losing things so that is a concern when it comes to buying something for this purpose.

I listen to books downloaded from audible on an iPod. Have done for over 15 years. Download and export to iTunes. Easy
