For thinking is was bad service when a mail order company refused to send the same item in 2 different sizes?

I ordered and paid for online some maternity clothes. I ordered some jeans in 2 sizes so I could pick the ones that fit best.

Anyway, I got a call from them saying that the smaller size I ordered would be perfect and that I would not need the bigger one. Anyway, since I had paid for 2 pairs, I said I'd take the smaller size she recommended AND the ones smaller than that. The company refused as the returns are "more work for them"!! She said my card had already been refunded and that was that.

The jeans were massive! So, ordered the smaller pair and ended having to pay postage all over again. Does anyone else think that if a website gives you option of ordering items in multiple sizes that you;d expect to be sent the said items?

Definitely not BU. You're the customer. For all they know you could be buying the second pair for someone else. They must be on the verge of going under to be displaying such odd customer care.

Very strange. My Mum often orders things in 2 different sizes (from Next) and they have never had any problems with that.

I would complain, very bad customer service.

The company in question is Isabella Oliver

When I first started shopping through the Next Directory many moons ago, I had to send something back via the courier and had re-ordered another size. However, I never did that again as the courier told me to order things in more than one size in case things don't fit and that's what everyone does. Then you just send back the one/s that don't and keep the one/s that do.

Grrr, grrr, grrr, that is bad service, if I ever get up the duff again I'll avoid Isabella Oliver. You could have had a slightly larger/smaller pg twin sister, who you enjoy dressing the same as!

Definitely NOT BU! That's the whole point of mail-order shopping surely? You can't try them on as you would in a shop so of course you order multiple sizes.

In fact most mail-order companies (here's where I 'fess up to ordering a lot from Boden ) have a special category in their 'why are you returning stuff form' saying 'ordered two sizes' or similar. So they definitely expect it.

Bloody cheek I say and they were lucky they got more business from you imho!!!

(They'll definitely be regretting it now you've posted this on Mumsnet though!!!)

Thanks for encouragement and I'm glad that it was not just me!

I phoned them to complain and asked for a refund on the postage - after a majoy struggle they relented and refunded some of it (I had the items sent special delivery and they'd only refund me the money for first class) They didn't even accept that I had a valid point!
