WIBU to have a word with neighbour?

For the third Thursday in a month, my NDNs are having a late night garden party with thumping music and loud shouting, still going at this hour. Not sure why it’s always a Thursday and I’m guessing it’s the teenagers, but we’re sure the parents are there too.

FWIW we have a baby and DH has to be up early for work. We live in a fairly built up area too, so we’re definitely not the only ones being disturbed.

We get on well with the parents- they know my PIL and kindly bought our baby a present when he was born so I don’t want to rock the boat too much.

Is it worth saying anything or just put white noise on to try and cover it every time?

I'd say something about it 1am on a week day is ott

AGirlCalledJohnny · 28/06/2019 01:03

1am is way too late for that on a school night, and as it’s turning into a weekly occurrence I would definitely be having a word! You’ve every right, just be polite and say you don’t want to fall out over it but could they take inside once it gets to your bedtime. That’s not unreasonable

Environmental Health at the council. There are legal limits to the level of noise at various times and after 11pm is the lowest level allowed. I used to work for our council's night-time noise team and EH officers have the right to fine offenders, all the way up to ASBO; our council actually got a private house locked up for six months due to persistent noise issues (court case and it was the youngish son of the owner living in daddy's spare house)

I don't see the need to go for the nuclear option of EH just yet. a quiet word will suffice if you are on good terms. No point starting a neighbour dispute and making your house unsellable in the process (Disputes have to be declared)

Thank you all. I agree EH is a bit extreme at the moment!

I’ve got half a mind to knock as early as possible, but being the bigger person, I wouldn’t want to disturb them!

Oh and it finally quietened down at 01:30. I know there’s a family to the back of us so I’d be surpisebld if I were the only ones saying something.
