To think ticket resale sites should be banned

🤬🤬🤬🤬

DH's big birthday this October and all he wanted was tickets to a particular NFL game in London. I was on ticket sale site at 9.45 waiting for tickets to go on sale at 10 and by the time I got through the 'queue' the tickets were sold out.

Now there are loads of tickets on Shithub at five times face value.

How is this even allowed!?! 🤬🤬🤬

I missed out too! Very frustrating. The Wembley tickets that went on sale Tuesday were gone by 10.15.

Interestingly, last year I won tickets to the same game as the one I'd bought tickets to (Chargers vs Titans) close to the date and tried selling them on viagogo - I could barely give them away!

It's a buyers market when you get so close to the game day & I sold them for less than the face value. If you wait till close to game day then you've a good chance of getting in. And you might cause a scalper to lose some money!

Saying that, I've heard some horror stories on here about viagogo. I've sold on them before no problem, but buying might be a different matter....

I don't even understand how it's allowed. I thought ticket touting was against the law.

crisscrosscranky · 27/06/2019 21:03

Interesting about tickets selling for less than face value- I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that we might get some a bit closer to the time- he's not a happy bunny!

These sites are modern day ticket touts and should be banned.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/06/2019 21:16

No, I don't think they should be banned, people just shouldn't be allowed to sell at a profit. Why should people who genuinely can't go not be able to sell their tickets?

CloudRusting · 27/06/2019 21:18

There needs to be a way to let legitimate purchasers sell or pass on their tickets that they can no longer use for face value without facilitating touts.

ronswansonstache · 27/06/2019 21:20

It's worth a try! The Jacksonville Jaguars game is 2 days after my DP's birthday so I'll be giving it a go.

If you're near London it might be worth keeping an eye out for the season kick off thing they do in London. Not sure whether they'll be doing it this year but for the last two years they've shut down Piccadilly Circus at the beginning of sept. to do a big launch event. Last year I won a pair of tickets, an official jersey top, and DP won an Xbox game.

Hope you manage to get to the game somehow!

Sirzy · 27/06/2019 21:20

I don’t have an issue with the sites as they are handy for those who genuinely find themselves unable to go. But you shouldn’t be able to sell the tickets at more than face value (plus reasonable p and p)

malmi · 27/06/2019 21:33

The event organisers could prevent this happening by requiring all tickets to be strictly personal, with an ID check on the gate.

But they'd rather just flog the tickets as quickly as possible and not worry about what happens afterwards.

If people know the tickets are being snapped up by touts for high-value resale they are more likely to fight to buy them as soon as they go on sale. Just what the organisers want. It's win-win.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 27/06/2019 21:40

I don't think resale sites should be banned, third party markets have a lot of benefits for individuals. What I do have an issue with is Ticketmaster having relationships with firms to buy tickets at face value plus a percentage prior to public sale to they can end up on a third party market

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/06/2019 09:18

What happens when someone wants to buy tickets as a present, or is ill and can't go?

Hilda40 · 28/06/2019 09:45

if people stopped using them they would wither and die overnight.
